The tins you have look like they should clean up pretty good. Then you just need the rest of them. _________________ "Just $99 down and $64 a month for 36 months buys you a brand new Volkswagen Beetle!"

I wouldent waste $ or thyme on building a small motor. build it big so it dosent have to work hard.remember it's only as fast as your foot alows it to be unless you build a small turd then it just stinks as it squishes up through your toes when you step on it. |

I wouldn't be too quick to discard those cylinder tins, and especially the fan shroud. That fan shroud has never been repainted. It still has the original factory markings on it. If those are original cylinder tins and they aren't cracked then they will fit better than any aftermarket items. A little bit of cleaning, and some paint will sort that out.
Don't let anyone talk you out of running the original dog house oil cooler you have right now, although you will need the duct work for it, and the various bellhousing, and pulley tins to complete it. You might want to run a compression check on that engine after a clean up, valve adjustment, and check of the end play. It might surprise you and be a good running engine. Good luck! _________________ OK Thang |

X2 on keeping your original tins. You're not going to find better quality than what you have. Buy used tins from the classifieds or local Craigslist. If you buy aftermarket tins to go with your German ones, they're not going to fit right. Also, there's a few versions of each of the tins that you need, so you'll have to do some research and find out which ones are particular to your year. |

And even if they are cracked, weld the cracks, paint them, and they STILL will be better than aftermarket tins!!! _________________ Jesucristo es mi Seņor y Salvador! |
