Tonight I used POR-15 to cover the areas that wont have good epoxy primer coverage. I got a little sloppy but tomorrow night I will tighten it up. I am still on track to going into paint on Saturday/ Sunday. By the way, Happy Birthday Stuart!

two days and counting until paint. Tonight was all about finishing up the hit list only to create a new one. This is the way of a build. I do want to thank my friends Mathew and Brett for lending a hand. They did a ton of work tonight. I also picked up the paint today. So this is how it is going to lay down. Ospho on the bare metal, 2 part epoxy primer on the exterior, 2k high build sealer on the entire vehicle (other than the underside), two coats of the white base coat on the entire vehicle, mask off and two coats on the bottom half of the bus, Three coats of European clear. Most of the products are PPG and are the mid line of the product line. All said and done for the paint portion will run about 2k in total cost with out any labor time

well, here it is. Paint day! 23 hours over two days and I am happy with the results. I recruited help from friends and we took care of business. Thanks Brett and Matt. I would also like to give a shout out to Bens Paint in Pinellas Park, Thanks guys for all the advice on the paint. Very Happy

How do you like that Omni vs. say Concept? I bought the PPG Concept for my bug as the guys as the paint shop really didn't have much good to say about the Omni? Have you shot Concept and if so, what's did you see as the difference?

I used Omni on my last build and it laid down amazingly. The shop that sprayed it uses Standek (I totaly mis spelled it). It is a very expensive German made paint for high end cars. The painters were very impressed with the results for a product in the middle of the pack for quality. I haven't used Concept before so I cant say one way or the other. All I know is that I like it Very Happy

Thank you, this is the first vehicle I painted and I learned by watching the painter that sprayed my last bus and youtube videos. Go figure Smile

I had my bumpers sprayed with the same Omni white paint. Have you noticed how that white changes to more of a yellow-white in the shade, vs just white in full sun?

It might be the lights your using. My looks the same, I have the brightest day light tubes I could find. My plan was to put enough lights in so that when turned on i could redirect plane traffic. Laughing

I have issues, I admit it. I am not happy with the amount of orange peal on the bus. so.... I used my DA and a box of 1000 grit and sanded down the clear coat so that I can put two more layers on. I know I promised that this build would not get out of hand. I know I would not be happy with it down the road. SO I will make this change quick and remember that this is not a show vehicle but a camping bus build to be used!

The paint is oh so very good now, I will still need to color sand and buff the finish at the end. I am happy with the results. I did need to bring in a friend of mine that paints high end cars to help me with my settings and lay down the final clear. I love this part of the build, re-assembly. I have decided to use bamboo flooring due to the water resistant quality's and its cheap. I am re purposing a pair of seats out a 1983 Porsche 944. They were originally brown then dyed black. What is neat about that is the black dye is coming off as I polish the leather and showing the brown. The effect is very cool in person. I figure with the brown (champagne edition) dash they will look nice. Tomorrow I want to have the floor installed, the cabinets installed and the dash vinyl dyed. I have decided on a set of 17x7 BRM wheels and Yokohama tires sized 205/50R17 extra load 300UTQG max load 1433 lbs. They have a total diameter of just over an inch smaller that stock 14" wheels. These wheels in conjunction with a 4" drop with provide a nice ride and look cool.

I have had such a great day today. I decided to tear into the motor that came with the half a bus from page one. from the outside it appeared to be a tired rusty engine. This is were i was wrong. I pulled the heads and found the it appears that this is the first time they have been removed and the condition of the internals appear to be of a vehicle with only few miles on it. You can see from the photos the crosshatch in the cylinder walls and the condition of the heads. So I proceeded to tear the heads off and do a soft rebuild and leave the block intact. Yea for me, and to boot it is a EG block so 70hp for me. Smile I also put new hydraulic lifters in while I was in there. Just because..
