The wheel should fit.Make sure you select the hub adapter for beetle 60-73. I have a 15 `on mine and it works fine.

Alright! Body is off pan now, and I will be taking all the parts to be sandblasted tomorrow.

I'll now start stripping the pan and will have it blasted and powder coated.

I haven't bought the wheel yet. I'll let you know when I do. Thanks for the reply.

Alright! Got the body back from sandblasting. Looks pretty good. One surprise was that I noticed some front end damage that I wasn't aware of (see last two pics)

They weren't finished with the doors, fenders, and lids... So I'll pick them up tomorrow and find out what the final bill is.

All of a car's "dirty little secrets" are revealed after media blasting. Twisted Evil
What are your plans to seal it now?

The plan is to this weekend seal it with some kind of epoxy based primer. I'm not sure what the product is exactly. My friend is leading the bodywork portion of this build. He's an autobody tech.)

I'll let you know when I find out.

Yea! I was pleasantly surprised at the minimal use of putty, and minimal rust on this car! Could have been way worse, that's for sure.

Got the rest of the pieces back today...

Hey everyone,

So I'm helping out prepping for epoxy sealer.

Problem is, 3 of the four fenders have the undercoating still. (Sandblasters didn't want to warp them trying to remove it)

What do you use to remove it? Chemical stripper?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I used a heat gun and an air scrapper when I did my car. It took a while, but it came off clean.

Alright. I'll have to try that.

Thanks.

We got the body primed today. We'll finish up the rest of the panels on Tuesday. So I'll have to get those fenders ready by then.

Heat gun and scrapper worked great. Thanks for the tip.

All the panels are getting primed tonight, then on to the fixing.

Today I started working on the front end.

Everything went well, but I wasn't able to remove the tie rod ends/ball joints. I tried the methods from müir's book. I'm thinking I might need to invest in a puller.

Did you try a pickle fork?? You can buy them at your FLAPS, relatively low cost.

Yea that's the plan, buy a pickle fork, or some kind of pitman puller/tie rod puller. Whatever I can find locally.

AV 25 09 3

Now I'm planning on getting the pan fixed up. There's some rust spots where the jack points are. I'm going to have those welded, then have the pan blasted and powdercoated.

what do people normally do with front and rear suspension pieces? Wondering if I should strip them down and have them powdercoated... I know some use POR15. What would you suggest?

Hers is the way the( Domeck Brothers) Ron and Me do it We remove all the parts every nut and bolt sandblast all the parts replace all the parts that wear out and give them a good coat of paint. We are not very happy with powder coating. If you want to see pictures of how we rebuild them go to our Website http://kubeltreffen181.com for over 1200 pictures of how we restore Things.

Thanks for the reply. Should I bother powder coating the pan then? Or would you just paint that as well? And what kind of paint? Other then blasting, is there any other prep you do to the suspension pieces/pan?

I would use Por15 on the pans as well as the suspension pieces but do not get any on the bushings.
