Finally got it back together and sitting on the ground.
Topline MAXX Kit, lowered sway bar, urethane control arm bushings, sway bar bushings. Smart Car tires in the front. Maxx kit set to 2 1/2 inch low settings. Ride is actually comfortable for the height and tire size. No rubbing what so ever. Waiting for new bumpers to come in. The one in the front has seen better days. Ready for a little island style cruise.

The 2 and 1/2 setting on the front is from top or bottom??
I like the stance and hope my 71 vert looks as good although I am going down one outer click in the rear also. |

Gonna bring it down a outer spline once I get my new shocks in. Also, want to see how low it is with my family in there too. Thanks again for the info an putting in touch with John at Topline!

It's the third setting from the top. That coupled with the smart car tires gave it the stance I was looking for without having to slam the front end to the ground.

Hahaha. Believe it or not Cusser you and Joel are the inspiration that got me to this point. Thanks again for all the info and experience. This is my first vert and I am finding that it is hugely different than a hard top. Aloha'z

Do some reading in the threads on splines and the torsion bar adjustments, you will find you can go one full click on the outer to get a big difference, or work with the inside splines as well and get different ratios overall that are smaller than the one full spline jump on the outer. My reasoning for letting you know is that one full spline turn on the outer is a nice jump and maybe to much, so you may end up doing both inner and outer to get a smaller adjustment... RB

That's good info. The last time I did it on my previous bug, it was quite the adventure. I want less than a 1 inch drop just enough to close in the gap between the fender and tire. Going to be installing a 18" wheel later so I'm trying to be as careful as possible so not to have to raise it back up.

How close are you on your bump stops are you now, the snubbers on the rear? Mean, looks like you have some natural sag going on, and you mentioned you like to see what it looks like with the family in it and all, so, you are going to do some measuring yet with them in I take it. You may be closer than you think as is. Why I say that is suspension movement, but also just cornering and all....
I am in the mountain and I run the top notch on my Max Struts to match the natural sag of my my 74 Super so that I have suspension movement before the tires can possibly rub. But I do run some rough roads and switch backs with me and a passenger with full tank of fuel and all my tools and all.... RB
Yea its a daily driver and I run it year around, and no my rear tires do not rub...

There are no rear bump stops installed. With a full tank of gas ND me and my son ( total 350 pounds of people) no rubbing or anything during turns. I have to be extremely careful with speed bumps but so far so good. Will definitely be driving year round but just for leisure. This is more my "Sunday driver ".

Gotcha so no bump stops, you are right in going slow over speed bumps and tracks and all.. If you do an engine no sump for you, I run a sump and added 1/2" to my snubbers on the rear to comensate for the sump so in case. My front end I do not hit the bump stops on the struts, I am running TopLine's Red Strut Maxx Struts Springs, there compression rate is stiffer than there Yellow Springs, or do I have that back words, anyway, I have the stiffer on now on the front. At one time I was getting a little to much dive in the corners with a full tank of fuel and with my passenger.. FYI I carry a bunch of tools and all in my front trunk so yea my car is on the heavy side... But it is a daily driver and at times I can put on 75 miles in a day, or a normal work day, 50 miles... Thing is you never know what is in your path at times were I drive, I am in the moutains.. RB
I did think of going lower but after some test drives, my suspension was going through so much of its travel, I wayed it out not to.....
