Found this while cruising through the interwebs and I think it's pretty neat. Want to know what you guys think about it.
http://www.vvwca.com/estore/Vintage_Volkswagen_Clu...oductid=13
Here's afew pics from the link incase you dont feel like opening it.
Just a sticker
This is what the recommended ranges are in the manual so I'm not sure on some of the aspects of the sticker, and the last few numbers??
Also has anyone here used their website? I might shoot them an email or do some more research on them later. _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.

I used to belong to the VVWCA and they offered a similar item for sale, maybe 10 years ago. I had one on my '52 Zwitter...pretty cool.
That inspired me to put a real, functioning 4 cyl. tach from a Ford Pinto into my '68 Westy, in the blank area reserved for a clock...works well... might be cool to put one in the clock area of the Ghia...hmmmmm

When I fine tune my engine in the spring , I put extra long leads on my tach/dwell meter so it can sit on the passenger seat. I take it out for a spin and wind through the gears to 4500 rpms . Just to keep familiar enough with the tone. Even though my 1776 is built to handle 5500 rpms, at 4500 (stock limit) it already sounds painful and unnatural ! I never drive that hard to need a permenant tach. |

I know when to shift lol all I get to do is listen to the tone of my engine. I thought it would be a cool accessory that I've never seen before on a vw. But it does kind of make a mess on the speedo. Guess I can live without it!

And I simply can't bring myself to replace the clock guage for a tach, Or cut a hole in my dash!suppose I'm a bit of a purist in ways.

I love the tach that I got here on Samba -- fellow removes the clock and puts a new tach in with a clock 'hand' so the white pointer is perfect. Nobody knows the difference. He even supplies the clock so you can keep your old one.
Two years later and we're happy with it.

Wish I had just a clock to replace, I hardly car about the clock! It functions but it isn't even set right as of now - I unlplug the battery too often. But the guage serves to many purposes, almost wish I had a 69-71. Gotta love the 73 though it goes 120mph

No problem!
I still might get one, even if I don't install it on my ghia.
Let us all know how it goes - just incase anyone else is interested in getting one. _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.

That is a superb idea! I think I will use either that idea, or yellow_submarine's.
I'll just buy a clock from a swap meet, or parts car so I don't have to tear apart mine, and I can keep it stored away for when i decide I need a clock. i would hate to tear it all apart and then decide I don't want/need a tach.
I appreciate the link! It's a wonderful comprise between stock, and custom. _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.

I agree, it would probably cover up most of my numbers, considering mine are smaller and seem closer to the middle. _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.

Ordered one of those at the end of last month, still hasn't arrived.
Be CAREFUL, might be a scam of some sort, shouldn't take this long to toss one into an envelope and mail it out.
Caution ! !
