Take them apart one at a time, use the one that is still together to illustrate how to reassemble the one youre working on. Pay attention to how to adjust them too. I did mine this way and it went really smooth _________________ 72 combi |

that is a excellent way of doing the brakes I even do this but you are assuming they were done right before I can't count how many times I have seem them done wrong and you need to know this when you do the job so get out the book. _________________ where its cold and snowy |

yes - the brakes have probably been done 10 times before in that car's life. You need to get out the book, do your research to be sure you have the right parts, and replace anything made of rubber or that is damaged unless the rubber has been replaced in the last 5 - 10 years. The flexible brake lines rot from the inside out. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

I just rebuilt the rear brakes on my 72. The new shoes were not cut out to accept the spreader for the ebrake. They just had a hole. I cut it out with an angle grinder and finally all fit together. You may encounter the same problem. _________________ KK4NTP

does anyone have a pic or 2 of what 72 brakes are "suppose" to look like
I just re-did brakes and e-brake is not working
I think previeuos owner did them wrong and so like bigbore mentioned
now Im doing them wrong
in comparing them to 73-79 brakes
I think po and myself bought the same brakes that shiningstar76 bought
so id like a pic before hacking up new shoes

also can the rear brakes be converted to 73-79 brakes
by changing the e-brake lever and spacer plate
plus buying 73-79 pads ?? _________________ order your BAY WINDOW T-SHIRT here http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1526918
