Well its cold outside , time to work on the 1300 again. I shaved the piston tops today. Put valve spring .060 shims in. Compared the 40hp and 36hp oil pump gears. Planning on using the 40hp pump.

Used plastercene to check clearance of piston to head and valves. Looks like about .100 to the head and .350 to the valves.

We have an ultrasonic cleaner at work. It is mostly used for copper weld gun parts. I put a VW carb in it and it came out clean but it was copper plated.

Looks Good ...
You are going to need a Turbo to pump some air into it, then it will fly.

Just got the beast running today . Sounds good and seems to have power. I am using a single carb til the cam is broken in. Just running it on the floor. Have to get the dual carbs sorted out next. How do you guys get your beast started with 6 volts? I might have to carry a 12 volt battery and booster cables just to start it. Jim

Happy to hear that it's running! Congratulations!

I run 1295cc, 8,2:1 and have no problem with a 6V starter. Shouldn't be a problem.

6v type 3 starter is stronger than the type 2 starter

and - there is a super rare 6v self supporting starter out there - from 6v cars with the saxomat

type 3 starter part number 311 911 021

it's .6hp vs .5hp and it does help on a type 3 motor. They were higher compression

Congratulations! It's a magic moment when the engine you worked on for a long time comes to life!

Geez , another new problem. Had problems with dist., fuel pump, and carb. Now I can`t get the lower shoe boxes on. Interfears with the deep sump. Might have to notch them.
