I got this notch from my buddy who recently passed away, I would like to know some stuff about it because I am new to Notchbacks/type 3's. It's original paint pearl white. I know some stuff about type 3's, like some stuff that I have for it and it has on it. I know it is a French import, it has the French rear reflectors, sealed beam headlights, beauty rings, mud flaps, and It does not have a rear arm rest. I have nos finger guards, some misc nos seals, an hwe chrome tail pipe peice, and some other stuff for it, I will post up some more pics and progress soon

Nice car. Not too many Frenchy's out there. Strange that it doesn't have the rear armrests. Post more pictures of the interior when you get a chance.

This must be a "late" 64, due to the push-pull headlight and wiper switches.

My 65 Notch rusted in those same 2 places too. The rear has been good since I added some metal there years ago, while the front is next on my "repair list". Wink
Nice car, what are your plans for it?

Just be aware that the front air vent panel changed in early 1965 from memory from a single recessed panel to a dual recessed panel.

I think (!) all 1964's and earlier had the single recessed front panel.

I'd buy that, except my son's 65 Square, and John J's 66 Square have that large single indent. Now, maybe for 65 VW changed the single to dual indents on the Notchback. I really don't know.

We had this conversation in the forum in the past and determined that we couldn't come up with a consistent date when they changed because there were so many variations between years and body style.

I've had four cars in the last 8 years, all either 64 or 65 and all Variants, there was no consistency among them.

Current cars:
Early 64 S is single indent cowl
Late 65 N is single indent cowl

Previous cars:
Late 64 S was single indent cowl
Late 65 S was double indent cowl

Memory fade on my part.

So long as it remains kinda correct is all that matters. If it's single or dual- try to keep it as is all I hope.

I agree there must have been a couple of suppliers to VW for a while or some other reasonable explanation.

i have done alot of stuff for the notch, started in mid September, decided to jump on the channels and pan halfs. i had gerson pans and some nice dry 3 bolt channels. got both channels done and it all back together hoping to have it done to debut at "Volkstock" but didnt have brakes and it ran like shit. so after that i got that all sorted out and took it to the busties bus club show and won an award. very happy on how it came out. heres some pics of the work

Also been a while since i updated this thread, Drove it around for a year with the original motor, lost a oil sump cover stud and drained the oil and blew the motor. Ruined pretty much everything internal. i threw my running 40hp in it now while i build a 1600 for it. from the Fuchs it went back to the stock wheels and trim rings, to BBT Sprints and now to RANDAR Circus wheels, an original visor (from someone in AZ that had a RHD notch?) also picked up what i was told to be the "last" pedro rack from my brotha Bill. to many racks now!

Wasted main bearing

Really like those wheels what size are they? I want the same type on my fasty and the same stance. Did you do type 1 beam to get front tucked that low? Does it rub??

I see your in AZ, so am I, I run with German Toyz
