That must be why everyone ask - how fas does it go/ is it fast?
I do like two tone though, I think it makes it look alittle more "retro" for lack of a better word.
I tried the 3M website, when I went to the where to buy section US wasn't an option. I suppose I'll have to research it on my own. Thanks for the link though, I didn't think it was something that you could do on your own. _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.

Back when I originally investigated it, I recall finding several places that sold the 3M product online however I no longer have those links saved.
Although the product can be used for wrapping an entire vehicle, it is quite often used for changing the appearance of smaller parts of the car such as the dashboard, other interior trim pieces, and side view mirrors.
If you search YouTube, you will find some "How To" videos that show how it is applied.
IIRC, you basically just peel the backing off and begin sticking it on using a heat gun as you go along to help form it to the contours of the surface.
As the product also comes in many different shades and types of woodgrain, it would be a good alternative for customizing the 1967 and up Karmann Ghia dashboards that originally came with the faux woodgrain dashboard. |

I like the chocolate brown interior, that would make for a very handsome interior. I'm afraid however, that my girlfriend would kill me. I've joked for quite a while about a beige body, and some shade of brown top, Aswell as those other brownish interiors. She hates the idea! Perhaps I'll suprise her one day with a beige ghia.

A thought about girlfriends, wives, significant others.....
Let them make the color decision. They will feel more invested in the project!

I've been thinking about "my girlfriend would kill me". Since when do girlfriends have killing rights? I thought that was a wives-only thing. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

We've been togather for over a year and live togather, she would kill me if I painted that car brown lol. Whenever I see a earthy color vehicle I go "what about that color" so she sees how it looks on cars - she just hates it, thinks the blue is too pretty. If it's up to her - she likes the black top and says "it looks like a bruiser" but agrees that an off white will look good Aswell.
Jared - your paint shades are beautiful lol. I'm jealous!
I'll look more into the wrap, $90 is kind of steep (Darrel your second link won't open for me) but the out come is very nice. _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.

The first three will all look good with your existing all black interior, the last one not. I like the first one most, followed by the third, and then the second.
What program did you use to do this? _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

I also prefer the black on blue; it makes a stronger visual statement than the cream on blue. However, the black roof color was one of your objections due to the FL sun...
Have you seen this Ghia with the black over blue paint? It's a few years older than yours but the color mix came out well (same car but different lic. plates):

I am forced to admit that I actually like the black roof better than the white/cream colored roof idea.
It certainly takes the look into a completely different direction - much more sinister or menacing with the black roof.
However, I still feel that a dark blue roof would work fine with the black interior and would look a bit less "Emo" than the black roof. |

Better quit busting balls kgc I'll paint it matte black, with little quotes from Edgar Allen Poe all over it (not emo, whatever!).
I'm going to have to agree with you guys however, I prefer the black over the white top. Also I tried looking for dark blue/ blue - I found afew busses that had that two tone, also used the generator. It doesn't make the car look as "retro" to me.[/quote] _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.

Well, after a lot of paint swatches to find a match for Olympic blue I came up empty handed. I tried tons of searches for a formula and no luck either. I found this website that says they have modern codes for vintage paint though - http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?color=Olympic%20Blue - anyone ever used something like this? I would maybe consider ordering paint offline, I just find it kind of scary. _________________ 1973 karmann ghia - current, not the last VW.
