So what's the difference between the sill plates? Does anybody know?

This is Bob's: (notice the raised circle around the screw, screw hole on top)

These are Mike's: Looks to be the same as Bob's only not in gold

This is mine: (note the angle is different an no raised circle around screw hole, screw hole on the side)

Could be that the difference in angle might have been caused by the PO (maybe accidently stepped on it) because in the end it's about 90 degrees just like Bob's

Don't remember who's these are: Look to be same as mine, no raised circle and screw hole on the side

So are there, except for colour, 2 different types of checkered sill plates? If Bob's and Mike's are beetle, then what are mine and the other's?

I got mine from Steve Herron 10 years ago.........Anybody know where he is now? He's had some truly rare items over the years.

I posted this question in another thread, but am moving it over to this one. My basic question is whether these sill/threshold plates were original equipment on a 1950 Deluxe Beetle? The carpet kit I purchased seems to imply that a plate is necessary, given that the carpet border stops at the threshold (see pic below)....

So, am I missing a sill plate or is the carpet kit incorrect?

The threshold plates still depend on the carpet retaining strip to be there as seen in this picture:

If your heater channels do not have this strip, your door has nothing on the bottom to seal up against and the carpet cannot be crimped in place along the door opening.

Your best option might be to find one, paint it and use panel bonding adhesive to attach it.

No, they are not the same left to right. Each sill plate is side specific due to the overall shape and notch at the rear for the headliner welting.
