Outwesty's trips are top shelf - breathtaking views, challenging driving, great camp spots. Highly recommended. Unfortunately I have to pass on this one - don't have the necessary cladding under the van yet. But I would love to connect with you for the Big Sur trip coming up. And we'll definitely be getting together when the snow flies.

I just saw this. I did not end up going to Big Sur but would love to join you guys at some point. Glad to hear you liked the trip last year. Unfortunately I have to work this weekend. I am tentatively moving the date to Nov 7,8,9. You can come no problem. The really hard section I have decided to omit as its just a little bit too much for a syncro. (large loose rocks)

Are you in a Syncro? Are you planning to drive down Hwy 1 from San Fran to Morro Bay?

For some reason I am not getting notifications when people post here any more. I'm Sorry to say this but the Tahoe mission is off. I ripped a sidewall out yesterday and my tires are too used to replace just one of them so I put the studded snows on. (6-9 inches at lake level this weekend) Unfortunately these are soft and wont make it anywhere I wanted to go for our camp out. I'd still be down for a 2WD mission if anyone is eager to get out and camp. I try to camp at least 1 night a week until the forest service shuts the gates. PM me if interested. Thanks. I hope everyone is doing well.

Hey Dave,
Sorry to hear about your blown tire.
Glad you have an alternate set and are ready for winter. I hope you have a great snow season.

We're getting a sprinkle of rain here on the coast. Will send the snow your way Smile

The rain should settle the dust in Big Sur a bit, and hopefully fire restrictions will be lifted if it rains more.

Fwiw, I just spoke to the Monterey Ranger, and at this time NO campfires are allowed in the Los Padres national forest (includes Big Sur). It's still an extreme fire danger condition.

I will look forward to camping with you sometime soon, keep me posted if you come to the coast. Nothing planned at the moment. And I do not plan to go to Tahoe this season, though I hope others will join you there.

Get together, open invitation for 2wd and Syncros to go to Pruitt Ridge Campground, overnight

Saturday January 24, 2014, meeting at the crest of Nacimiento Fergusson at 1pm,

at the beginning of the dirt road intersection of South Coast Ridge Trail.

Fire restrictions have been lifted, so yes campfire, subject to cancellation if its rained out and muddy.. I will try to check it a week prior for road condition.

Yay! Looking forward to your company Bill,

I expect to pass Monastery Beach no later than 11:15am if you want to caravan.

If anyone wants to meet at Safeway Carmel at 10:30 am, let me know to expect you. We lose phone reception after that, so if you need to text me, keep that in mind.

here is a google map from Safeway Carmel to the crest of Nacimiento Road at the intersection of South Coast Ridge Road.

That is the 1pm meeting spot for Westlavanagon coming from Fort Hunter Ligget side, to join us on the way to Pruitt Ridge Campground

One of my friends wants a Big Sur experience that weekend, so we may join you or cross paths up top, weather permitting.

I look forward to seeing you and your single cab, Bill Smile

Westlavanagon in a 2wd Westy is meeting us at the top of Nacimiento, Saturday 1pm.

3 vehicles total.

Ubercool in a Syncro Westy might meet us at camp after dark.

Dirt Road report from Ubercool last week is, conditions are easy for 2wd.

Weather forecast Sunny, high of 75, low of 50F

The plan is to just hang out at the Pruitt Hang Glider launch to enjoy the sunset, or whichever nearby campsite is unclaimed.

Im guessing you, Bill, will want to go on Sunday to BurningVan in Ocean Beach. Google says it is a 4 1/2 hour drive from Pruitt Ridge Campground to Ocean Beach if you go up the coast through Santa Cruz.

I do not plan to go to BurningVan, and will be showing Westlavanagon the Big Sur Bakery, and possibly drive the Old Coast Road North, from Andrew Molera side, on Sunday.

I'll catch up with you all at the hang glider launch or nearby Saturday, probably 8 pm-ish. Should be warm and spectacular. Big porpoise pods have been making rounds off the coast, and grey whales are still heading south.

This is the best time of the year to be down there. Less buggy and a more lush landscape.
Have fun

Apparently Propane is not part of camping. Is it possible to delete a post in this forum?
