Thanks scotty, I tapped on the tin slightly , but i'll jack it up tomorrow and fix it. funny i should install an oil temp sensor and then gain an oil leak  !
Here you go Bloku ~ some pics taken today. she isn't pretty - but we will get to that 
so here she is like a bruiser - black and blue
I'm going to re install the original turn signals.
much more sinister plans for her tomorrow 
suppose I should inform those who aren't aware of my game plan. the car will be flattish blue ( not glossy ) with a flat black top, black rims - going to find some hubcaps in decent shape ( mine have rust holes ). I'm going to leave the dash the original Olympic blue that was under the black vinyl face. Today I ghetto rigged a modern radio up to test it (and then left a CD in it  ) - I will make a box for it under the dash.
also I picked up some adhesive for the carpet so maybe i'll glue that all down tomorrow !

Looks good too me  . I would even drive it how it sits! I getto rigged a modern radio in my dash and got lazy and left it there. I do not want anything to do with wiring anymore.
Do you plan to do anything to it? different rims, ride height? If you want, I am pretty good at Photoshop (lowering stuff, that is about it  )and I could do that for you if you want. Just name it and I can do it .
To everyone - Has anyone ever seen when a bumper for a late style ghia that was pushed back? I have seen it in the bmw forums but almost nothing here at the vw world.

Thanks man! unfortunately I know you will hate this next part i'm keeping the ride height, stock rims, and stock bumpers - but if you want for shits and giggles you can modify the car however you want! maybe you can hook me up with these?

Thanks!! should be an interesting ride. sucked to read about your Ghias story, and the bad body shop.
Florida decided that it should rain today, so no work will be done - she sits under a tarp waiting. tomorrow I should be able to take the DA to it, and glue down some carpet.

I need to see how you're doing the carpeting, please, because I'm going to have to do the same in a month or two.
Have you tried grey primer? It can make a car look good, even when it's still in pieces.

A word of caution. That nut should have a specific torque on it as it carries the main bearing for your crank. Too tight and it can pull the stud from the other half of the case or pinch your main bearing destroying your engine. Too loose, and well.. you get oil leaks and possibly extra play in the crank which too can destroy your engine.
To get in there and move it at all, you're taking a risk. It is a temporary fix at best. |

I have completely embraced grey primer. My '69 road runner was supposed to be painted three years ago, but between the furnace died the day before last Thanksgiving, oldest daughter getting married,haven't had the $$ for paint. I tried to talk the wife into primer for her Ghia, but she wants shiney paint. Plus with primer, no worries about chips and scratches.

Normal height is very good for people who like to drive their cars. The cars were made to function that at that height, and the geometry of the suspension was made for it to be that way also.

I will post up pics in just a bit. I have all of the carpet put in and I started to hit parts with the DA. I learned quite a bit from this, and kind of rushed through it - an important lesson is to take you TIME! Second lesson is to wear a friggen mask over your face - I did not... Another lesson for yourself chris is to not take example from a 19 year old I didn't know what I was doing either, just kind of did.
Here is the Glue that I used, I kind of rushed at home depot and just picked one, if I were to do it again I don't think I would go for a spray adhesive - although it did do its job rather well.
the first part I put down was the tunnel, almost immediately it made wrinkles(my worst nightmare,I want it asflat as possible) so I had to lift it up, apply glue at times and fix it. I got it quite straight ,some parts not flat due to the padding underneath.
the part where the defrost tubes are, I cut a thin piece of cardboard and just shuved it in, nothing but glue holding it - that's apart of the things I rushed on.. here's some pics - I didn't take them as I went along - sorry for that.
Biggest regret is getting glue all over my freaking fingers, some spots if you look for it you might see it, but from a far, and not paying attention looks pretty good I suppose. also I didn't glue down the main floor pieces, just gravity holding them. I wanted my car to look different, so I left the brake line exposed, and the passenger footrest exposed, also the wire loom. overall I had around three hours invested, between sanding, carpet, cutting stuff, and a french fry break
let me know what you guys thing, or ask any questions if needed !
Wish I would have joined this site before buying my karmann ghia..
Primer is finer, she will get more sanding tomorrow.
NWghiaguy ~ are you suggesting that I just deal with the drip? I mean I know it takes alot of drips to amount to anything but it is a drip no less.

just made some VW floor mats to go over the driver-side carpet, might make a small mat for the passenger side as well.
so here we go, traced a template off of my VW sign
moved it over to the backside of the carpet and cut
placement isn't exact, ill figure it out tomorrow
