Flocking Pop Top!

Has anybody tried re-flocking the inside ceiling of their pop top? I see a US based company that offers everything required but I am wonder about just how practical a proposition it might be.

WoW.. C@@L Find. Never tried it but going to keep in mind. I see lots of god use for this type product.

Things like maybe fixing a badly cracked dash without using one of those Dash Pads, Rug like Topes.
Cabinet shelf Flocking to help quiet pots and pans etc
Etc, etc..

Personally,
I would only consider the air assisted or electrostatic applicators for such a large project.
I may purchase from them to be able to flock dashes and other smaller parts too.
Looks like a few high quality finish.

Plenty of circa 1890 flocking to give away. You remove, but you have to take it all!

Insyncro- I would think only the air assisted should be done on the pop top, mostly due to size of the project - for ease and consistency. Given the nature of he individual fibers, I wonder what the longevity and durability of the product would be? Have a kid up to who puts his feet on the ceiling and *oops* there it goes?

I would only consider reflocking the top with it removed from the van and in my newly constructed spray room.
I prefer having gravity work with me not against me.

It appears to me like applying fiberglass via a chop gun, which I have done recently to a boat.

I have sent the company a message to see if they welcome dealer/installers...
We shall see.

I was thinking about fix my pop top. I was gonna scrape all the old flocking off, sand, & then glue on "mico-fiber suede" with an upholstery adhesive. Then the little darlings wouldn't be able to scratch their names in it with their fingernails. The down side is the cutting required in the corners to make it fit properly.

hey fishguy,

the existing flocking seems extremely hard to remove and while not impossible I have yet to find an easy way. I am thinking of buying some tan flocking to just fill in the areas that need a little help. my van seemed to have flocking directly on the fiberglass and then had a foam backed velour material glued over that. the velour had disintegrated due to mildew and poor storage and whilst scrapping it off I did some damage to the flocking as I was initially thinking I was gonna totally remove it all but then realized just how hard it was gonna be. I saturatedthe flocking withbleach and all the mildew cleaned up so I could just live with a little flocking touch up. I see that Lee Vally tools has smaller flocking kits for woodworking projects but do not have the tan color I would require. you are welcome to come for a look while I have the top off.

FYI...a Snap On Crud Thug with the rubber wheel makes short work of the removal.

I like the head liner that GoWesty installs. I don't know how well
it works for the moisture control but it sure does look nice. They also
sew the Velcro for the screen/sunshade around the skylight. No more
dealing with the Velcro peeling or leaving glue residue on the top.

It also makes the interior more modern looking especially when the grey
material is used. Use a light smoke skylight and grey plastic trim/knob.
Looks sharp when done.

I installed grey tweed up there when I had the top off and upside down. Very easy to do once the poptop is off and cheap. Highly recommended. I'll try to find a pic in a little bit.

For what it's worth, we have been using this velvet fabric as the headliner material in the new Country Homes Camper roofs.

Is there a reason folks are seeking to put the flocking material back on to the underside of the poptops?

My plan when I rejuvenate the poptop and luggage rack was to scrub the flocking off and paint the entire thing, but not try to replicate the flocking. To me, it seems like a canvas for the mildew and such to grow on.

Please let me know if I am misunderstanding this!

Just flocked to match new paint. Fixed cracks and got rid of poop flock. Will never go back. Love it. If you have done this post pics. The texture is the same as original. It's perfect. Let me know what you think.

FYI the flocking keeps condensation from forming and limits problems associated with moisture in a camper.

The inside of a Eurovan poptop is covered in a vinyl. They never seem to go bad. I'm wondering if anyone has tried flocking directly over something like this on a large scale? Shouldn't be any different than doing a dash.
