Hey guys,

I was nosing around under my car last night and noticed that my muffler was original designed for two tailpipes. But someone welded one of the holes shut so that it looks almost correct for a '55 (one tailpipe).

I'm not sure what's inside a muffler. Are they just an empty chamber. Will this hurt anything? Maybe make too much backpressure, or more backpressure on one side than the other?

TIA,

Steve

I can't thank you enough for that. That's exactly what I was looking for. I agree with you. I have an exhaust leak somewhere that I'm beginning to think may be bad gaskets and I was wondering if somehow they got blown out due to excessive backpressure. I guess that's not the case.

Thanks again,

Steve

When you block the left exhaust outlet, you will also block the preheat function that VW made. So icing will be a bigger problem. One tailpipe exhaust also need a endpipe with bigger inner dia than the one used with 2 tailpipes.
