Thanks for posting - glad to see another kit.

I have one of those metal canisters too.
As far as I know it is later production, as you said.

Do you think that rag is the original?
If so, what are the dimensions and what material is it?

From the look and condition of the rag here it's probably original. It's a chamois material, about 16" x 16". Aside from a few spots it's in great shape and not torn or anything. Everett I noticed you have an upholstery cleaner bottle...!

Thanks for adding to this post! I'm wondering if you think it possible that the rag in your kit could be the original? My hope with my kit is to make it as complete and accurate as possible and the rag is the piece of the puzzle that is least clear for me.

Sure, glad to assist! I can't really say, the cloth looks old enough, it's the same material you'd use for this sort of thing. I've never seena good picture of an original to compare it to. Trying to get my kit as close to original as possible as well.

It's hard to find a good picture of the thing. So unless we find a NOS kit or something we'll never know!

Would you be kind enough to snap a couple of pictures so I can have better clues to come up with a close towel? The type of material and the way the edges are would be a great start.

Well this was interesting. Taking pictures of a rag! I even ironed the nasty old thing!

I hope those are helpful? It's a soft material. There are two seams.. Not sure what else to tell you?

Thanks for the information on the polishing cloth.
It doesn't look like a chamois though?
The pattern looks more like a dish towel but softer?
Chamois looks more like leather. Right?

You're welcome Pcalbar! Mr. Everett I thought so too, then I started looking around online and found cloths that were also called chamois. I have no idea? Also if you're ever interested in unloading that upholstery Cleaner bottle please let me know? Very Happy

Ok, thanks.

The bottle is in my kit.
The same for your windshield bottle though since I am missing that. Wink

D'oh! I missed that part! I didn't see where you had one of these kits, too. Good luck to both of us then!

Thanks to Tomas, my kit is a step closer to being complete. He was kind enough to sell me an NOS Cromline tube, box and instructions...

Installed in its correct place with three open slots left. Now I need to find a correct rag, L398 Pacific Blue Paint and windshield washer fluid...

I finally managed to score a can of Polierwasser to add to my collection. This too has the metal lid like the Konservierungsmittel can that I have. All I need now is the upholstery cleaner, and I am set......for now!

Why won't he ship the can, you have to get it! Do you have any of the paint pens?

He refuses to ship and I don't live in California any more. It isn't a pen, it's an old, og VW, unopened can.

Where in CA?
Let's get someone to get it for you and ship it.

Note that paint cans cannot be shipped via USPS, they must go FedEx Ground or UPS.
Not that I haven't gotten some via USPS...
