36hp leaking oil at rear case bolts. (pics below)
Both center case washers/nuts are dry, but both rear washer/nuts seam to "ride up" onto fly wheel housing causing the washer to sit crooked, they oil seams to be riding threads up and then out (leak).
My questions are:
Are these the correct washers for the rear?
The 36hp use gaskets behind washers correct?
Silione or thread sealent will more than likely fix, but would like to know more about why this is happening.
WASHER SITTING CROOKED
CENTER BOLT SITS FLAT AND IS DRY

Definitely appears that your problem is the washer not sitting flush. 36hp cases use a paper gasket behind these washers... |

use some sort of sealer with the paper washers, looks like you put them on dry?
which to use is personal preference. _________________ Rick

yes assembled dry and where seals sit "flat" there is no seepage.
Does anyone have a picture or pictures of this area? I would like to see other washers and they way they "seat".

I used grade 8 washers from Home Depot on mine. The outside diameter was bit smaller than stock, but have worked well.
I used Loctite 518 - no paper seal
best pic of my engine I could find

Here is a photo of a motor I picked up last year which I have not done anything with yet. That washer should sit perfectly flat in all six locations. If yours is not flat then either the washer is too big (doesn't look like it to me) or the case needs to be spotfaced where it sits. Or perhaps your washer is not hard and flat, deforming when the nut runs down on it.

remove the washer and grind it to fit the case profile add the paper gasket (I use aviation form a gasket on all paper gaskets. seals them good) then reinstall. |

pulled it apart last night, both areas had minor imperfections causing the washer to sit "crooked", cleaned up a little and re-installed gasket and washer.......
this time the washer almost "snapped" into place flush with case.
gonna run it this weekend. Thanks alot for pictures and help. _________________ WWW.WESTCOASTBULLIES.COM
