I was driving home from the Boston area on Saturday late afternoon right at the beginning of the most recent snowstorm. It was the perfect amount of snow where they haven't yet plowed and the ruts were developing.
Almost everyone was driving reasonably given the conditions. In my review mirror I see this black Escalade come flying up behind me. He was doing 75mph easy. He darts back and forth between 3 lanes passing anyone and everyone. I looked at my wife and said "That the guy that drives like an idiot and never crashes".
About traveling about 5 miles down the road I see a bunch of brake lights in the distance. Coming up to the spot I see the Escalade down an embankment, facing east (in the westbound lane) pinned up against a rock ledge, buried up to the bottom of the windows in snow. The side curtain airbags had deployed and people had rolled the windows down and were crawling out. Everyone appeared OK.
I know its not nice to revel in others misfortune but thank goodness no one else was involved and nobody was hurt. The economic impact for that idiot will hopefully be a good lesson! |

It's usually on the first snowfall of the season that 4WD/AWD drivers discover that ability to accelerate doesn't correlate to the ability to brake - and you see them in the ditch... Wonder why it took them so long to wreck it. Yes, it is fortunate they didn't kill a bunch of innocent people in a smaller car.

Around here, I suspect a lot of Escalade drivers can probably afford a new SUV, easier than some of us can afford the cost of a new tire/wheel after hitting a pot-hole. So the lesson might not be taken. |

if the economic impact doesn't bother them I bet the time they spent sitting in a COLD car while they waited their turn didn't sit well.
I went from Boston to western mass during this storm. The vast majority of the people just stayed in line and went with the program. My Cayenne is really pretty good (better than my Discovery or my FX45) in the snow but throw in really bad visibility and other people sliding out all around you and you have a recipe for some serious chaos. |

Used to see all this time when riding shotgun with my pop in the rigs.
Impatient drivers zoom around.. to find them upside down in the center median miles down the road..
We'd just blow the air horns and wave...

I'm pretty sure Karma doesn't approve of the brake check. _________________ sent from a phone using poor grammar and spelling |

Driving a 68 bug to VT years back in a snowstorm (the usual 6 hr drive took 12) a Caddy Eldorado went smoking by us and I commented we would see him off the road in a few miles. Sure enough we did. He was standing next to the car so we rolled down the windows and gave him a thumbs up and a hearty hip hip hooray as we went by going 35.... _________________ my59: Well son, my grandfather died before I got to drive it, so does that answer your question?

20 some years ago I commuted from Cape Cod to N. Quincy, on rte 3. One year, around Thanksgiving, we got an icy sleety morning. I was driving a front wheel drive Dodge Omni, actually a pretty good winter driver. I'm a very capable driver, learned to drive tossing cars around rural dirt roads in upstate NY. Anyway i'm going 55 or so, two fisted, white knuckled, laser focused. A pack of 5 or 6 4X4 p/u and suv's went blazing by me. I knew I'd be seeing them in the ditch, I even knew where I'd see them. Yep they were there, exit 12 marshfield rte 139. Any one knows the road, knows where I'm talking about. several had rolled and people were still climbing out when I went by. I didn't stop, enough people had already stopped. It was going to get real dangerous with all the stopped cars. Nothing looked horribly wrecked. looked more like they pinballed off the road.

I'm a very calm driver and I see douchbags all the time getting away with stupid shit. They never get pulled over but I do to let me know my license plate light is out. Still waiting to see some driver karma and I'm 43! _________________ Schrodinger's cat walked into a bar and it didn't.
