What is this dash light for? It is between the gas gauge and speedo. Ambulance light?

That is the emergency flasher dash light. It flashes when you pull the 4-way flasher knob.

On the '63 diagram everything is there but the light, if I remember right.

I get it, it doesn't matter which wire goes to it as long as one does from the switch.

I'm working on the same light today. When I have the light wired to the ignition, the emergency flashers flash quickly/repeatedly. So I'm looking for another place to activate that light.

ultimately, a light is just a light... however, what i was thinking when i saw it was the trailer hitch blinker indicator light.

We used to wire in a little light just like that, it would blink one time whenever you used your blinkers, it was just an indicator that trailer lights were wired in.

That light piggy-backs off of one of the terminals on the hazard switch. The linked thread doesn't really apply because you have a pre-'66. The hazard indicator light was built into the switch for '66-'67 so they don't have the external light.

My wiring is painted over but I think it should be attached to the small red wire on J6 (hazard switch) in this drawing:
