We shared this on our Facebook page today, but we thought it would help even more people to post it here, too. Here is a list of some of the things we look for when we are determining whether a throttle body is a good candidate to be re-bushed:

If you're inspecting your t-bodies to see if they can be re-bushed, here are some things you can check for:

- Gaps in the sides of the throttle plate. If you can hold it up and see light in the sides, the throttle plate is worn from being improperly assembled at the factory, causing excessive wear of the brass plates. A little light is OK. Quite a bit is bad, as ones like this will not let your idle be set low enough.

- Rusted/pitted throttle shaft. If this happens, the shaft will wear the new bushings like sandpaper as it is rotated. A little rust can be sanded off. Big pits are a no-no.

- T-bodies that have been re-bushed before. Some people drill the holes way oversize and use rubber o-rings or seals to try to stop the leaks. This prevents the new bushings from being pressed in properly.

- An obvious sign is screws that aren't factory screws.

- T-bodies that are completely frozen solid. We can sometimes fix these, but more than likely there will be rust and pits. This one was frozen so bad the shaft broke during disassembly.

- Improperly installed SVDA fittings or ports. More often than not, these are installed in the wrong spot, are the improper size, or leak vacuum.

Once in awhile, we can't even re-bush 'em!!!

Here's the latest batch we gave up on:

You'll also want to check to see that the mixture screw does indeed stop the flow through its passage when bottomed out.

You don't take out the throttles and put those the brass barrel? Or is that the job for the new guy? Wink

Must be doing quite a few. What price do a pair fetch just as "cores"?

The "new guy", Scooter, is busy enough that he doesn't have enough time to separate the metals. They all go bye-bye. It would take a heck of a lot of throttle plates to make the brass pile worth keeping up with!

Core prices go up and down according to how many we lose, versus how many we can save. It's kind of a seasonal thing, too. Sometimes we have 30 or 40 rebuildable carbs in stock that we buy at swap meets, shop buy-outs, customer trade-ins, etc. Sometimes we have none.

As they say....

It all depends.

You could save them for boring out to 46-48mm, you could use IDA butterflies. I was going to cut a set of billet TB's on the waterjet machine but they closed the doors before I had a chance.
