ubdate,,,got this email...
I happened to stumble onto internet photos of an old van that you are/were associated with displaying the words Fink's Laundry and Dry Cleaning. I believe I can shed some light upon its history for your interest. I am pretty certain that the vehicle was a pick up/delivery van for Fink's Laundry and Dry Cleaning in Kenosha Wisconsin. This company was run by my grandfather, uncle and father. I can vividly remember riding in the vehicle or its twin as a young boy to pick up bundles of washing and delivering them. The colour of the van was indeed blue. I sat in the back while my father drove the van. My grandfather's sister Dorothy Maxwell ran a laundry in Van Nuys California up until the Watts riots of 1965 when their laundry was burned to the ground. I am assuming if you got the van in California that my grandfather parted with the vehicle in Wisconsin and it ended with my great aunt in California working in their business.
I would be keen to hear from you as to where you obtained the vehicle and to any history you may have on it. Unfortunately I do not have a photo of the van to share with you. I am glad you enjoyed preserving the van, although not in its original colours.

The bus was not in California until pretty recently. I found the bus on a farm in Houghton, Michigan in the mid 90's. The previous owner had owned it for a long time. At some point I'll get the pictures I took of the farm scanned and up here on the Samba. Some very weird and interesting VW's were on the property. Let's just say, it's a miracle I found the bus in one piece. The guy was a nut with the welder. |
