Are these the correct tail lights for a 1971 Mexican Thing?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VW-split-bay-bus-type-2-19...mp;vxp=mtr

My Thing has the lower holes filled in with the 74 style lights poorly grafted on. I am currently doing the body work and I'd like to put the original style back where they belong.

Thanks,

rob

I believe they would have used the two bulb "European" style.

The "US" Bus version tail light used a combined turn and brake light. Things (181s, Safaris, Trekkers,...ect) should have a four wire setup. All separate circuits.

Hey Hugo,

I order two of those from Ralf in Germany. He was really nice and agreed to ship them to me internationally.

If you know of any other places to find 1971 metal work please let me know.

The metal parts for the 181s are few... and sometimes rare...

You normaly find this ones on the german ebay:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/AUsENSCHWELLER-links-passen...339fbc6704

The inside ones also... hoffman-speedster also have them and other stores also (but hoffman are the cheaper)...

The floors are the same of the Karman Ghia...

I love the first generation Things, It seems you are going to be a bit busy but all the work will be totally worth it. Here is a Pict from one of the first 1971 Safaris built in Mexico. Greetins.
