OK so are all Squarebacks supposed to have a cargo area light or was it only the '62-'66 models that got it?

'62/'66 with the one- piece metal hinge cover. I've retrofitted the early covers to later cars with a door jamb switch to activate the light when the hatch is opened.

Thanks. Seems like a weird feature to delete, since I would imagine it was pretty useful.

The problem is, besides providing not much more than a dim glow, the moment you reach in, you block the light.

Ha, good point. Probably would have been better to mount the light lower like in one of the side panels.

Try a 12 volt one with a good ground, LOL. I wish they HAD continued this feature. My problem is that, for myself, I can't bear sticking one where it wasn't original.

That '65 Sunroof Automatic A/C Notchback must have been an out of body experience.

You can buy strips of leds just about anywhere these days, wired on either side of the cargo area you could then finally have enough light without being too badly blocked. the wiring would be easily hide-able. just a thought

Sure, and you can do a shag carpet headliner, crushed velvet upholstery, and hang fuzzy dice from your rear view mirror, too... but that doesn't mean you should. Very Happy
