I am looking at a very nice 66 bug. I have a concern about it may have had some paint work on the nose. The cable that attaches to the truck release is the same color as the body. Did VW paint the cars after the cables were installed?

No that would have made a mess of things in the paint shop.

As 60ragtop said, the metallic tube that houses the release wire/cable is painted body color in a 1966 Volkswagen Beetle sedan.
