I'm guessing that if it is just a rattling shifter, it is not going to leave you stranded. If the shift rod bushing is bad, it is metal on metal so it is wearing out the bracket. but that damage is done( if any) and driving it a day or two isn't going to hurt it any more. JMHO

Well here's the bushing
And here's more of it?
I put some wheel bearing grease in the cup, and my shifts feel abit better. Picking up a new bushing this week, and hopefully a new coupler.

Changed the inserts in the shift coupler, changed the bushing, and greased the rod, and cup yesterday. got to take her up to speed today and the gear stick stayed dead still, the shifts are waaaaaaay better!
