Looking at an eco-tag 2.4 that is 700 bucks for engine starter alternator wiring harness and computer. Psion saying assuming the engine is fine with about 80,000 miles how does that price sound in y'all's opinion. Thanks

BrooksInc, the engine appears to be the cheapest part (other than time) of the swap. If you watch several of the other swaps, the price sound reasonable.

There are a lot of parts and bits you will need. Consider the value that some of the turnkey solutions provide. These guys are not making millions off of the kits; but they are saving a ton of pain.

The question to ask; how much is success worth?

Agreed, I've looked long and hard at the Alpha fab package. my build has been at a standstill debating the engine so it would be easy to mock up the fab work for the eco-tech. if I remember correctly the guy in Kentucky charges about 700 or so to send him the wiring harness computer and he sends it back ready to go and the fly will and adapter. I am wondering what other cost I am having a brain fart on I know all the cooling parts.

I set my budget at $3400
I still have a couple things to buy but am staying on budget so far.
Sold The VW engine for 2k.
So ideally the cost of the upgrade will net $1,400 out of my pocket.

I would say mine is on the cheaper side.
When I was talking to guys before I started the swap the number 6000 was thrown around a lot Shocked

I spent about $2500 on my swap, including everything but my labor.

Cooling can be cheap or expensive, same as the fuel system. The minute you start getting into silicone couplings for coolant piping and AN fittings for fuel system is where price can jump rapidly. However there are cheaper routes with flex hose and things like that. With anything skies the limit on price points. The harness, adapter, and flash aren't really that bad.

Hi, I have been lurking around for sometime as I am in the process of a Karmann Ghia Ecotec swap. I have been gathering info. from this site for my planning so I figured I would share what I have come up with this far.

2004 Ecotec 2.2 111000 miles $450.00, incl the wiring and the ecm.

Adapter, stripped down wiring harness, reflashed ecm, adapter flywheel, pilot bushing, pressure plate, P/S pump block off plate, misc bolts $800.00, all from Phils Bug Shak in Grayson, KY.

BTW, Phil is a great guy and very willing to give advice and info. He's been and still does these conversions in buggies all of the time.

I think I have another $150.00 in tune up, oil change, a/c delete belt, clutch and throw out bearing. Hope this helps.

Don't forget the cost of a transmission upgrade anything less than a 5 or 6 rib won't last long depending on how you drive

if i were to swap my vw i figured it was gonna run me anywhere from 2000-2500 for the engine and needed parts.Labor will be me doing the work.

Cost to build my current 2275 from scratch would be almost double with all the good internals i have.
