Kinda sorta belongs in the classifieds as a WTB.
From an info point of view, how does one change/adapt/alter the wiring of original tail lights to one that only has one bulb in the red area (three overall) instead of two (four)? _________________ Now: 2003 New Beetle Turbo S / 1990 Single Cab Transporter / 2014 Tiguan R-Line 4motion / 2013 Tiguan S / 2002 Golf GLS TDI

No.
Some elephant's feet are one amber, two red, and one clear (reverse). The reflector is to the one side, and the elephant's feet are right- and left-side specific.
Others (as well as some "flat" elephant's feet aftermarket replacements) are one amber, one red, and one clear. These elephant's feet have a horizontal strip that is a reflector and they fit on the left side and right side interchangeably.
I was wondering how one deals with the wiring difference should they swap from one kind to the other kind. _________________ Now: 2003 New Beetle Turbo S / 1990 Single Cab Transporter / 2014 Tiguan R-Line 4motion / 2013 Tiguan S / 2002 Golf GLS TDI

Oasis: I was responding to the original post. Are we talking about "Mexican" spec 73 or a USA spec car with "elephant feet" tail lights? |

Hot rod and motorcycle aftermarket makes a Diode that has two wires in and one out. We put a pair of LED bus lights in the green car we built a year ago and installed these. Don't remember were I got them from but found them later on Ebay. Also used another setup called rapid fire from Shinney Hinney with my 32 ford LED's that put 2 into 1 and flashed the brake lights 3 times then stayed on. |

Diode kits for "two in/one out" are available wherever you can purchase motor home parts. This is a standard method of wiring tail lights on tow vehicles. |

Oasis: the mexican elephants feet and (IIRC) most aftermaket replacements have one bulb that is fed from two wires-ATM i cannot remember which was which, but I think its the brake/marker light--the reds one. instead of having two bulbs with its own connector, its one bulb that has two connectors going to it..more like tabs the wires plug into.
you have to swap the entire assembly though..you cant just put the new 3 bulb lens on the old 4 bulb mounting, but you use all four of the stock wires...
this isnt the exact bulb holder, but it shows the general idea
