A little bird told him....
We used to carry his stuff and knew the piece. Actually thought we had one or 2 for our own project but could not find them when I went to put them in.
They are easily findable on a search, we have them in our favorites. Last time I knew Wolfgang International and Bus Depot still carry there stuff now on this side of the pond |

I finally made it out today. finished my chores early on my second day of vacation. So I had previously cut out the majority of the rust. I welded in the patch today. This is nothing fancy but its solid now. I still need to do the back side and start with the removal of the old center cross support. Any tricks to getting up there with the grinder in this cold.

my front brake parts from cip1 just got here too. I'm slowly buying front end parts too. thinking about ripping out the beam and replacing it with a spare that I have.

I asked Scholfield if anyone carries their stuff here in the states. No one carries their products anymore. You have to buy directly from them. Easy customer service and fast shipping. I received my part on friday afternoon and I only ordered it on tuesday. Faster then getting parts from the west coast (WofsburgWest) or even Canada (Cip1) _________________ Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

i've been trying real hard to get a lot of the rusty bits out yesterday and today. I had to remove the center heat pipe, rip out the front cross bar support and grind down the spot welds. My arms are tired today.
I was happy when I started:
heater pipe removed. Someone has replaced this at some point.
passenger side cleaned up. I did the drivers yesterday.
then I just wanted to see what it would look like with fresh metal in there! nice.
I've noticed a nice hole in the front beam this winter: :2gunfire: :2gunfire:

Greetings,
Can you share the steps you took to knock the old ones out? I have to knock out the cross members on my bus also.
Did you drill out welds, use an air chisel or cut and grind? I ask because although I don't plan to weld in new ones myself, I figure I could save a handful of dollars delivering the bus to the metal person with the pieces out.
Are you going to weld in the new ones yourself?
Love the slider by the way!

Eskimo Tom, I cut the old metal with sheet metal sheers and then used a fancy vise grip and some muscle work. It took a while but I didn't damage any of the original metal. THe spots welds are hard to rip off by hand and takes some bending and prying of the metal you are ripping off. But it worked. I plan on welding in the cross member and out riggers myself. I will drill holes and spot weld in place.
Today I ripped apart my spare beam to prep for all the new parts I've been collecting this winter. Going to replace the center pin first. I want to have this beam all put together before I take out the old one.
here is the hole I found in the beam on my bus currently:

I need help now. The one thing that stand between me and dropping this old beam is this shift linkage.
I was able to carefully cut the old set screw and collar off. But the two pieces are still together pretty well. I blasted it with PB blast before I came in for the night.
Any suggestions? Tricks? _________________ Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

I would heat it with a torch and melt some paraffin wax around the joint. Maybe tap it with a hammer to break up the rust bond a little. _________________ Please buy my Treasure |

I sprayed some PB blast on it and let it sit. I'll Try heating it up if it doesn't break free. Thanks for the suggestions.
Tom: I probably wont have it ready for litchfield. I'll probably be driving the 73 as a shake down run. I need to have my spindles rebuilt and right now Widefive isn't tooled up for rebuilds. I am working on the center pin this week and getting the sway bar on before I jack it back up. Trailbash would be fun. It's been a few years. _________________ Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth.

you are gonna need to heat it. Propane torch to the 'female' side until its cherry red. Then take vice-grips on each portion and turn until they come free. |
