The original poster asked a great question. I was very interested to hear what people with lots of engine machining experience had to say. This type of question is best answered from someone who has done this over and over such as Roy at MOFOCO. His comments are welcomed

I am very sorry if I have upset anyone or ruined their samba experience but I will not stop asking questions when people make statements that I don't agree with. My only goal is to understand why the statement was made. I truely enjoy coming on here to help people, share my personal experiences and also hear about all your personal experiences. While I may disagree with some people from time to time, I have the utmost respect for everyone who says, "I just was in my shop, my garage, my buddy's driveway, etc; we did this and this was the result." Actually doing things using trial and error is the essence of this website and the VW aftermarket industry as a whole. On the flipside, I have no problem with people who don't physically do anything and just come here to discuss topics. The problem I have is when people who don't do anything are telling the people who do that they're wrong. I think that's extremely disrespectful. I hope everyone can see my point of view.

You couldn't just let it go, could you? What you just posted says nothing you haven't already said, so I can only conclude this post is an attempt to bait John back into it.

Sakichi Toyoda - If you want to know the true root answer, ask why five times. This is similar to Ricardo Semler's "three whys".
