Someone left a note on my windshield a while back and they want to have my Bus in their wedding. They want me to drive... they just want to be passengers. I can carry 7 passengers so I guess I have the room.
I told them pay for my gas money and give me $100 and it's a deal.
Has this happened to you? I hope they're not weird. _________________ "I spud therefore I yam." |

Yes I did something like that, but I did not take money. As a non-business I think I have less risk in case of ... or ... or... death, injury, ... and/or ... kidnapping ... ... bank robbery ... jewel heist ... intervention by the authorities ... upholstery stains ... . I did a photo shoot for Kombi dvd. If you do a wedding, I think that tux or chauffeur's uniform would be nice, but hippy garb might be ...

I always like to make sure they pay me in cash AFTER the event. That way there's:
A) no trace of commercial activity
B) no evidence of commercial doings if insurance gets involved with an accident. YMMV. This is not legal advice...
I've done this a few times and never had any issues, but I have also turned folks down who seem sketchy.

Ah... ask for cash after. Got it. I did consider that. Just that if I'm taking a day off work I don't want to miss out 100%. _________________ "I spud therefore I yam." |

No, while I've been on the receiving end...
The local VW club stepped up and provided a few buses in lieu of limos to caravan our wedding party. I helped start the club but had not been active for 10 years. Total awesome surprise. Someone mentioned the idea to them and they did so for nothing. Another decade has passed and the memory for everyone involved is like it happened yesterday. I'm not sure what the $100 is worth in the long run, but a genuine appreciation for VW's is worth both everything and nothing. Just my 2 cents. _________________ 1978 Type 2 mod. 221-8

Great story about your club, btw. I'll share a few photos if I can get any. _________________ "I spud therefore I yam." |

After I re-read my first comment, I'm glad you clarify the no free rides concept.
My hope was that you are paid in a genuine appreciation and that it is valued much more than the cash. Your VW is a gem and is an every increasing rarity. _________________ 1978 Type 2 mod. 221-8

I hope they appreciate it, too. So after this note was left I emailed her then 3 months later called to confirm (as if I should be the one doing that!) and she asked me "which Bus is yours?" as if she had asked several people.
When I told her she replied something like: "Yours is the nice one."
Just made me wonder. Getting the day off work, ordering and installing seat belts for the middle row, cleaning out the Bus, etc... all takes time and planning on my part. Because the wedding is 90 minutes from me I'll likely spend the night locally, incurring a charge.
I certainly hope it is not for naught.
Asking $100 and gas is kind of like not giving something for nothing... it causes the other person to place a value on it. And at the end of the day my Bus doesn't look the way it does because of the admiration of others.
I appreciate your kind words about my Bus and, as I said, hopefully I'll have some photos to post. Wedding is still a while off... in July. _________________ "I spud therefore I yam." |

Their wedding planner called me the other day. She asked if it would be okay to "decorate" my Bus. I don't mind as long as it can all be removed. I have never met this person and don't know anything about them so I am just hoping there won't be any sort of hippie theme going on with flowers and crap like that. If there is... well it's their wedding so I won't say anything.
I guess I'll post some photos in July when it's over. _________________ "I spud therefore I yam." |

Man, I'm gonna slap some seat in the bed of my truck and get on that bandwagon.
I'm interested to see how they decorate it. Most of the wedding buses I see, they put a giant garland V on the front. Reminds me of Borat's swimsuit.

No one ever asked to rent mine but I did have a couple of stoners, that frequent my store, beg me to let them fire one up in it. As if smoking a doob in a bus would be like visiting their Mecca _________________

Dozens of people at local music festivals always want to buy it but never have money
Had a guy on Facebook find me that owns a transporter he does a photobooth in. Said he double-booked a weekend and wanted to rent mine. I would have considered it, but I will be camping in it at RockUSA the weekend he wanted
Most people that approach me about it think mine is worth $30-40k+ so I just don't tell them about how I paid 9 for it |

I was a little insulted by this one. I had a guy who wanted to trade for a sprinter van. I kinda think I could have made money off that one though.

About a year ago I got a call from this guy who said that their church is going to have a valentine's dinner & dance at the church. They chose to have a 1960s & 70s-type theme and wanted to know if they can use my bus for the event as a party display so that they can take their pictures with a vintage bus in the background. Since it is a charity event, I felt that I should help out.
Five days before the event, the same guy called me and asked me if I can drop my bus 2 days before the church valentine's event. I then became suspicious and concluded that the organizers of the event wants to play around with my bus which is a titanic "no-no" to me.
I then told the guy that I have changed my mind and decided against lending my bus for their event & apologized for any inconvenience that I may have caused. He then asked me if I know someone who owns an original 1960s Woody Wagon who would be willing to lend it to their event. I politely told him that I don't know anybody who owns one. (and even if I do, I won't refer them to the Woody Wagon owner).
Many VW buses who were owned during the 1960s and 1970s have "back seat stories" and I think the attendees of these valentine events wants to relive the things they did back in the good old bus days. _________________ 1966 Riviera camper Bus
