That is mine as of yesterday, shipping isn't going to be a issue since I will pick it up from syncrofest. I wasn't looking for one but it is available and the price is fair.
I know of a guy in SF that has already done one of these conversions so I will probably have him do it.
The seller has another one available. |
SyncroDoka,
I will email you details for the fellow who did mine. He's busy building bumpers and push bars for SF Muni at the moment so will have to work out timing with him. _________________ BenT |

Quick update;
Snow is melting, waiting to here about a possible door seal. I drive this everyday and love every second of it.
Today I thought I would try and install a fiberglass bumper I bought for one of my vans last year. It took me longer to find it and dig it out of the snow than it did to install. Hahaha.
New rear bumper, smoked signals, and LT syle mirrors are in the mail. Should be here in a few days.

|

Thanks Eric. Love them. I'm so happy you reproduced these!! I looked for 16" flares for a long time before I decided on yours. Front tires rub a bit in the back of the arch when you hit a bump while turning. These tires are 225-75-16 so it's understandable. I'm going to lift it a bit soon just trying to figure out what lift makes the most sense. The old man emu stuff might be too stiff so such a light truck (so go Westy says), the trail-master stuff from van-cafe look good and the fox stuff with GoWesty springs also looks good. Anyone have suggestions?
Btw I love how the flares keep the dirt of the wheel arch so EVERYTIME I get in and out now my pants are clean. Yay!! |

Which door seal do you need? I think van cafe has some door seals for the dokas. |

The seal is in my possession. I can finally start the conversion. 5 months after I first shelled out the money for the door.

Almost forgot. Got these in the mail a week ago from Tristar connection. They are super helpful and Seemingly they have atleast one of everything I need (accept for the seal, I checked). The emblems are specific to sinka/doka's. I needed the Vw script. Mine was missing and the new door needed some hinge guards.

I bought some used Audi A4 wheels in Vancouver a week or so ago. They showed up on the bus a few days later and here they are sitting in place. Audi wheel centre bore is 57mm and my Syncro needs 66.5mm, the same as a Mercedes. The offset on these wheels is 45mm so I can add 12-15mm spacers to correct the offset but usually still have to machine the centre to cheer the axle nut Grease caps. Thankfully T3technique.com have custom spacers and long studs to easily fit these wheels to a Syncro to avoid machining the centre bore.

Nice van!
I carried out a 3 to 4 door conversion around 10 years ago and was surprised to find that the majority of the frame is already there, hidden behind the panel that you'll be cutting out.
The parts that weren't there were the floor lip (for the seal) along with corners, roof centre section, corners and trim strip that the headlining clips into.
Obviously there are the re-enforcements for the hinges and catch to fit but it's a fairly simple job and one which makes the most sense for all 3 door Dokas.
The door seal was one of the hardest parts to get hold of. I ended up cutting up a seal from something else and fitting it as I couldn't get one.
Those Audi wheels work well. I've used them with 16mm spacers up front and 20mm spacers at the back and the correct 17mm headed wheel nuts from Christopher at T3 Technique.

I know I'm a little late to this party but for the record there are two versions of this Audi wheel and I have both on my Vans. One is ET45 and the other is ET 37. The ET 37 is a little easier to work with.
My ET45 van has 16mm spacer in the front and 8mm rear, with longer bolts/studs for both. My ET37 van has no spacer in the rear and a 8mm spacer in the front with longer bolts.
If you have the option the 37mm is a little easier to work with. I'm not sure which Audis had which, but I think the ET45 is more common. _________________ '91 Carat Westy

I bought Hubcentric spacers, longer studs and nuts from t3 techniques. They worked perfectly without having to machine the wheel. I love the look. Thanks for the advice . |

Yes Chris knows his stuff. They are very good looking wheels and an inexpensive option at that. Common too if you need replacements. _________________ '91 Carat Westy
