hi all,
I have a set of this BFG tires on my '90 tintop Syncro - about 20K miles / 5 year old - threads are worn half way... - fine hair line all around on all 4, no cracks elsewhere
is it safe to use them till the end or not ? of course I can get new ones similar but I don't like to waste good ones if they are safe to use..
I hope your opinions will benefit to others too.. such as new comers to the forum..
thanks

six years is usually the replacement suggestion from manufacturers regardless of tread amount left. If you bought them 5 years ago they may have been manufactured months/years before that. Most tires have the manufacturing date on them as a code. You should see a string of numbers and letters after DOT on the sidewall (typical) and the last four are the month and date of manufacture (typically). _________________ 1988 GL Camper

For local trips, I'd not have a problem getting some more use out of them. If planning some long distance trips, might be best to replace them where you have some control over the purchase. On the road, it could get crazy expensive to replace a set of tires if one lets you down. _________________ ☮️ |

What he said. I'm doing the same thing right now; driving around cautiously while deciding how to proceed with tire shopping. I had a single blowout on a Florida trip and, while my spare was good and the remaining tires looked fine, it was troublesome to find a suitable replacement even in a major metro area like Miami. Do you feel like pushing your luck, and will you be traveling with someone who feels the same way? _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

thanks guys...
so I need new tires...
now going from 14" to 15" rims is the question for myself... I have to think...
because I have the feeling that the 15" rims from our favorite vendors are not as strong as the OEM 14" alloys... |

Another thing to keep in mind if you are going from 14" to 15" wheels & tires...
Some 15" wheels work with Big Brake Kits, others don't. Nice to have the option and not have to spend the money 2x . _________________ 1990 Multivan - "Ohana"
