|
|
Well I decided to share this one because it was so cool. I personally have never had a bus with this much OG paint and for it to be a PG/SG it is just AWESOME.
So the story goes that a friend was visiting in LA and one night he happened to look on the local craigslist and there was this bus for sale in Alaska. So he forwarded me the add. When I opened it I almost fell out off my seat. The add had no phone number so I sent him an email with a solid offer. He called back and said that there was someone already flying up from Cali to buy it. I cried a little then moved on. Two days later he called back and said it is mine if I want it because the guy couldn't make the trip. I quickly got up, jumped around for 5 mins, then back to the logistics Then started the doubt, a few people said they thought it was a scam and I started to have second thoughts but I sent the money anyways. It was worth the risk and the reward was GREAT!
It took a couple of weeks to get it all worked out and I had it towed to a local VW shop in Alaska and he got it rolling and stopping to get it trucked to Washington where I picked it up. Here it is a month later when I was final able to touch it. Did I mention that all the OG interior panels are in there too
Look at it. That is many years of sitting in an open field growing moss. I was so thankful that the windows were all broken out for I think that is what saved it from rotting. Here it is safe and sound at our shop
Now to get it back on the road but first it got a major wash and then a buff. After that we have a model matching 36HP motor and a bus split case tranny that we will get put in.
Until next time........ _________________ Please visit our website www.silverliningautorestoration.com |

Uli,
You be the judge but if you ask me I think they did pretty well. We will have to massage a few of them back but all and all the front panels really nice. The drink tray too. How about the parcel tray still having the OG material there and intact. I have never seen one like that.
Not to mention these pictures were taken the minute we got home. So let me clean them and massage them back to normal and get the correct seats in place.
What do you think?

Wow! That is a great score. The interior panels are in fantastic shape all things considered.
Can't wait to see the bus cleaned and polished and the interior panels 'massaged'

I want a demo on how you "massage" a panel. I haven't a clue how that can be done. Seems hopeless. _________________ Judy

Here it is getting washed
And now it buffed out It makes me smile every time I see them.
Yes I know the decklid is incorrect. It made me cry when I saw it wasn't the original one but I did have an OG SG one laying around so I put that on.
Have you ever seen that nice of OG paint window frames?
Hope by the end of this week we can have it back on the road. We went through the motor and tranny and they look good. Also put in all new brakes, soft/hard lines, wheel cylinders, and master cylinder. There is rust on the bus but I do not have the heart to cut it out. The new proud owner (whomever that is) will have to tell me to do the rust repair. This is an uncut, untouched bus and they only come that way once. _________________ Please visit our website www.silverliningautorestoration.com |

Great work, keep it up and keep posting. PG/SG has to be just one of my favorite colour combos. Always nice to see OG paint given some love. _________________ 1962 Gulf Blue Patina Deluxe Beetle

That style of deck lid is correct for late 58's. Check your chassis number before you change it.
Great looking bus though, amazing condition _________________
