1962 bus... I had the driver rear axle seal changed by a local shop.. I was doing some basic stuff and was checking everything... I had it jacked it up and while undee decided to check the tranny fluid and added to the bottom of the plug. I let the vehicle back down and just about eveverything that I added came back out the drum area where it was leaking before.
1. Is it still leaking or did I overfill it since I had it jacked up?
2. Where should it leak out the extra?
I have to get fixed asap as I'm going on a trip this weekend!
Thanks in axvance! _________________ 1962 Panel Van

Overfill!
You jacked it up which lowered reduction boxes. Once the Reduction Boxes became level again your situation becomes messy;) get it level let it sit for a few and check tranny level. You may have to let some drain out. It also will burp out of the little hole on top of the nose cone. _________________ Special Thanks to:

it did not leak out of the front of the transmission. Only leaking out of that seal area by the brake drum. do you think the seal is not right or bad again? _________________ 1962 Panel Van

That would be my guess!!
I had my tranny recently replaced. It had new seals and developed a leak early on with one wheel. Seal could have gotten a nick during install? Anyways my leak was fixed by reinstalling a new seal. Doesn't sound like anything serious!! Go down to the local hardware store and grab a oring and try again;) _________________ Special Thanks to:

Not installed properly or the initial problem was never fixed. |

^ This is the one you're looking for. I had a similar problem. Turned out the bearing cover was torqued (bent) so that it wasn't sealing flush. |

Where does the oil come out at? If oil is coming out along the stub axle then it is either a bad O-ring on the stub axle next to the bearing or the axle nut was not tightened enough. If the seal is bad then oil goes out through the weep hole in the bearing and seal case and out the back side of the brake plate. _________________ Don't worry; be happy. (Baba) |
