I have searched all the usual sources to no avail. Does anyone know where I can get two of these to complete my restoration?

They are the pins that hold the camper mudflap into the two holes in the body, they screw into the mudflap itself and insert into plastic grommets.

Thank you for any direction to source these in advance.

They are used in furniture making, most often table legs.
They are Hanger Bolts......

Dave, that's what they look like but they are much smaller and metric. And stainless. If someone knows where to get just these screws I would also like to know. Great to have an extra set for the stock mud flaps.

I guess you might be able to find some of the furniture type that may be small enough, but I doubt they're stainless.

West marine has them in stainless. The smallest size is 1/4" by Fasco.

I can get those at my local hardware store (I live in Germany).
What size?
How many?
Price plus shipping.
(Also, if you want to throw me a couple extra bucks for the effort, I wouldn't sneeze at it!)

That is the MOST kind offer...I am going to a bigger town this week and will check there first. If they don't have them, I will contact you.

Thank you!
Robert.

Just for everyone interested, the measurements are as follows:

Diameter: M5
Threaded length: 10MM
Self threading, wood screw style end: 20MM
Overall length(of course.) 30MM

Being one that has searched for this item quite a bit, .......

I feel compelled to ask if either of you two actually looked to see if they stock these? Or did you just spout forth the name?

I have failed to locate metric Hanger Bolts in Stainless Steel.
Please show me where I overlooked looked the listing?

Thanks

Dave

Anyone ever hear of Google?

http://catalog.hangerbolt.com/viewitems/stainless-...ger-bolts?

A #10 screw is just shy of being 5mm and a 1/4" is about 6mm

I will freely admit failure, egg on my face, whatever......

I looked and looked and looked.
Found metric...not stainless
Found stainless... Not metric
I guess the failure was in the name of the product
Metric woodscrew to machine screw.... To think I was using Hanger bolt! Silly me using the products name.....

In all seriousness.....
Thanks!

But.....
It begs to be asked......
Why must we mock when we help someone learn or find something?
There is a very real mean streak in these forums......

I got them at the dealer. A couple of bucks each and the plastic grommet that they fits into ( grommet in the body). The grommet has a metal core that grips the plain stud end of the screw.

You screw the stud into the rubber and then you push the mudflat on to the body. One use only.

I think the same stud and grommet is used on other VW vehicles.

Not stainless, wouldn't that be nice?

Alistair
