Searched and didn't find it. My coil doesn't fit snug in the bracket, and never has. Its a normal sized coil and stock bracket. Is this normal? Ill post a pic when I get home. If you have a pic of yours, can you post it so I can compare? Thanks!

I have been able to get my bracket to work with several different sized coils over the years. You may just need to make a shim or something. |

Put a beer can around it.
Or don't...
Does your bracket have the adjusting screw for this exact occasion?

My '72 has a fiber pad about 1/16' thick between the coil and bracket-still there after 43 years. It wraps about 3/4 way around, about 1/8th" wider than the bracket. Kinda like gasket material. _________________ '72 Elm Green Deluxe |

Okay so making some type of shim isn't uncommon? Mine is a bosch blue coil. No adjustment screw on the bracket that I see. _________________ MAKE FORUMS GREAT AGAIN

Odd, no hole where a machine screw went across to suck the legs together?

All the Bosch coils I have are equipped with mounting brackets that have a
M5x0.9x40 clamp screw with a square nut to match. _________________ '67 bug: seized by the authorities

Assuming we are talking a Type 4 here the mounting is different from a Type 1. One end of the bracket clips under a protrusion on the fan shroud while the other is held by a stud and nut. There is no pinch bolt. |

Ahhh.... yes, I wonder if there is 2 different coil brackets for type 4?, I've seen more than one where the coil was dented badly by those casr ears on the shroud the coil sits against. Almost like someone clamped a fat coil down with a skinny bracket, or maybe it just got mashed during an engine pull?
The 72 version is the only one you can positively identify in a box full of them. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

This. I need to brave the rain and take a pic. What's special about the 72? _________________ MAKE FORUMS GREAT AGAIN

"72 coil bracket had an arm sticking up for the accelerator cable return spring. The bracket attaches with one 8mm bolt on the rear bottom, whereas the top slips under a loop on the fan housing. _________________ '72 Elm Green Deluxe |

It's got an eye poking metal boner sticking out of it for the throttle return spring.
Check that your bracket hasn't been overtightened or tweaked during an engine drop, the curved hook end may need a little more hook action. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

If the coil is too large in diameter, you can just put a washer or three over the stud before slipping the bracket into place. If too small in diameter you can cut pieces out of an antifreeze jug to use as shims. FWIW minor dents in the coil don't seem to hurt anything. I still don't like them though. |
