Hello all. I am starting this post to see if anyone is having electrical and/or leaking thru the plastic on the common early brake light switches.
There are plenty of good folks having this problem with the 3 prong switches. In over 30+ years I have replaced the switches when replacing the master and never had problems until the last few years where I have had a 100% failure rate with them. The solution is to buy the ATE/FTE switch, at 3x the cost.
Thanks in advance, Bill.

I'm glad I bought some German Mera brand switches from OEVeedub back before the company ceased to exist. Even the 1990s/early 2000s when I was working on VWs I was starting to see crap quality on brake and oil switches and started to look for OEM quality. Yeah, they cost a lot more but I'm happy to pay more up front if it means I'll have years of service out of them.

As far as brake switch leakage, that's an issue I don't remember seeing, it was the poor contacts (no contact or sticking contact) issues that I remember.

Thanks Andy. I have been seeing two problems that have resulted in a 100% failure rate. The first is what you commented on with the contacts, resulting to apply an excessive amount of pedal pressure to get some brake lites. Much more than required to stop the car.
The second is the brake fluid leakage between the electrical contacts and the plastic. I did a major brake job on a barn find 71 super and months later she contacted me stating her brake pedal was spongy and had been stopped by LAPD for non-working brake lites.
Bill.
