|
|
The Arizona Bus Club was formed back in 1991 and the first Jerome Jamboree was held that summer in Jerome, AZ. There was not a raffle bus the first or second year so that means the ABC has raffled off "TWENTY TWO" 1967 or older split window buses. This year is the 23rd raffle bus and it's a very early 1959 Panel being restored to near factory specs. Restoration progress is on this thread:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=617297
The ABC is celebrating our 25th Anniversary this year and we wanted to do something special by attempting to get as many past raffle buses to the Jerome Jamboree this September 18-20, 2015 and we are calling it the "Raffle Bus Roundup". FREE entry to this years Jerome Jamboree XXV, FREE JJ T-shirt, special raffle bus parking area and other goodies await every past raffle bus that shows up!
We are asking for the VW community's help in locating information and/or the current owners of past raffle buses. We have good information and pictures on buses from 2002-2014 but prior to 2001 there is not much for digital pictures or internet info on these buses and they may be enshrined in actual photographs tucked away in dusty old photo albums. Unfortunately…some of our past members have left us too soon and many of the others can't remember back that far so…hopefully this thread will bring back some memories and possibly even some past raffle buses.
Please….please…please…if you have any pictures or info on these buses to help fill in the blanks below and/or their current owners or whereabouts...we would really appreciate it. Post on this thread or send to my email anything you would like to contribute and/or correct. Info in bold means we have had contact with current owner.
A couple of edits and pictures added thanks to you all!
Thanks,
Roy Jonas

Hello everybody! There are a total of 6 past raffle buses that are confirmed to be going to Jerome Jamboree #25 this September.
6 out of 22 aint bad but we'd like to see at least 10. Please help us locate these buses and/or current owners so we can try to persuade them to bring these buses back to Jerome for our 25th anniversary.
5,184,000 SECONDS!
86,400 MINUTES!
1440 HOURS!
60 DAYS!
8 WEEKS!
2 MONTHS!
.167 YEARS!
Any way you slice it…this is all the time left before we have another raffle bus on the loose. Jerome Jamboree is coming up quick! _________________ 1979 Type-2 Westfalia “Sandy”

The Romano's double door was won by Kyle Rutkowski not Jason Griffin. Jay bought the bus from Kyle in 96 or 97. He was the owner when he passed, I believe Mike bought the bus from his estate. Don (our most gracious host) road his 1940's Indian through the bus at some point during the weekend, banging his head upon exit. It was a good time.
This was the Romano's bus in 2000 at Jerome, when owned by Jay.
The 56 "surfer bus" was owned by me at some point in the late 90's and was cut up for parts. By today's standards it was a beautiful driver. Back then, it was parts. I no longer have pics of either of these busses though. |
