well, I was pissin' around with it again last night because of this relentless popping. I thought maybe I could really richen it by turning out the screws and that it might help. Well, it seemed to help a little. New problem now. I put the sync on it when I revved it to around 3000 rpms and the carbs were WAY off! no wonder it was poppin at mid throttle! Well, then I started looking, and partly the reason is because I believe my throttle bushings on my passenger side carb must be shot. The DS carb linkage turns as soon as you pull on the gas, the PS carb throttle moves in a downwards action before it starts turning. SO, just so I can get through this weekend (big show) I adjusted the linkage to try and make up for some of that play so that when I hit the throttle, both will react around the same time. It's a lot better now, but I know I'm going to have to get them bushed.
Anyone know who does this that is good?
Also, I ordered some jets from John at Aircooled.net, so I'll get those this week also and hopefully we'll see some results soon.
thanks for the help guys,

I know this is an old thread but I was wondering how this turned out. I have dual ICTs in an 1800 type 4 and am trying to tune them. |

Thank you JoelH. If you have any insight as to what would be the best for a type 4 1800 engine in a bus with a Scat C25 cam I would like to know.
I currently have a 52 idle, 130 main, 160 air correction and the F78 emulsion tubes. The one-way valve has 40 stamped on it if that matters. |

Ordered rebuild kits and got recommended jets from Pierce Manifolds. Still not right as I am in 3 1/2 on the speed screw. The mixture is at 2 1/2 plus a little. Not sure if the mixture even matters with the speed screw so far in.
Right now running 60 idles, 140 mains and 160 air with F5 emulsion tubes. The pump exhaust are stamped 40. Still has a slight hesitation on acceleration and the speed screws are too far in.
Seems most people say out on the speed screws but what I am reading it is the number of turns "in" from first contact that we should be counting. The mixture screw is measured "out" from contact.
With my present set-up any one know what should be changed next or how to proceed? |
