Just acquired a metal sunroof vw bug with matching numbers pan.The numbers say it was production run aug.63 but the metal sunroof would make it 1964.The metal sunroof was the only year upgrade as it has the 63 and down peanut turn signals and small license light.Vehicle is out of dmv system any thoughts would be appreciated? |

model years start in the august before the year so a august 63 made bug would be a 64 model year bug _________________ ____________

Its a 1964..
1964 Model year started in August 1963 and ended July 1964.
As mentioned. EARLY 64's retained a few carry over 63 parts. _________________ aka Ken {o\!/o}

Here is one for you. My 64 113 was built Sept 26 1963 and has peanut style front turn signal lamps and the new wide lic. plate lamp, a friends 64 was built a few days before mine and has the peanut ft. turn lamps and the old style lic. plate lamp. My 1965 111 has the new style front turn lamps except they are painted body color, the lic. plate lamp is the old style pre 64. |

It's hard to say for sure what was right - Progressive Refinements say the new license light started at the beginning of the model year, EXCEPT for USA-spec models, which stated at the same time as the change to the larger front turn signals....

going from memory, the larger turn signals came in november, I always assumed the larger license plate light came in august 1st for all the markets. |

Except for the standard or "A" models
The one on the left is a Type 115, 1966 1200 "A" ragtop, the one on the rt. is my type 111, 1965 "A" sedan

Key element right there. For the sake of thread simplicity (and progressive refinements quoted daily here) changes are referred with regard to export deluxe model cars almost exclusively. Your CC or standard is an exception to most cars sold in the US. _________________

Any and all models and variations have a right to be here on a world wide VW site. The world does not revolve around U.S. built cars.
Add a interesting note to all this. My 111 was ordered by it's original owner through a dealership in Inglewood Ca. U.S.A. Which explains it's towel rack bumpers and some deluxe trim like Canada . It even has the 1956-59 deluxe steering wheel that all 1965 Canadian 1200 Custom's had.
For the sake of simplicity the author should state what type of model he has and what country the car was delivered to and that he only wants comments related to the cars destination specifications. The VW world is very large and a better understanding and education of ALL which encompass that world should be the goal. |

Of course a 111 has the right to be here helfen. The OP's descriptions of the car led straight to not a model problem- but model year confusion. But your post reads as though you are presenting the features of your car are typical of a '65 sedan. The OP is newer- and I'd bet a donut- read right past your slipped in "111" designation. Nobody's saying the world revolves around US-destined cars- but this thread is pretty specific about the OP's car. _________________
