|
|
I finally got a fix for the absent VSS on my subaru vanagon. I can recommend enginewiring.com. The guy was really helpful and the install was as simple as spicing into the VSS wire, ignition power and a ground. At the same time I grounded wires to insure the ECU was set up as manual trans and grounded the body of the ECU as recommend by enginewiring.com. The part itself is really small, about the size of the end of a sharpie cap. It seems to run fine now even thought there are still a few codes on the ECU. When I clear said codes it doesn't seem to change the way it runs, as opposed to before when it would go into limp mode, high idle etc. But while I was installing the VSS I noticed this.
Anyone know what the burned out/melted resistor is?

That's your Small Car code board. You could try asking them... _________________ '84 Vanagon GL 1.9 WBX

Perfect!
Ordered a new one. And it looks like this will solve all the code issues. Looking forward to seeing if my MPG improves... |

I had their dummy constant speed VSS. Meh
I prefer the speedo mounted style that actually gives it the correct input like fastforward.ca sells. |

So...what is the advantage?
My van has/had operational cruise control at one point, not working now and I'm not sure why. Unrelated to the recent VSS fix.
Is the speedo mounted version GW sells comparable to fastforward one? Difficulty of installation? |

red/blue wire is for fan relay if that's what the resistor connects to.
yellow/blue is ign
You could just replace the resistor if handy with a soldering iron. |

I agree, My ecu like actual speed variances vs. this, I used to have it as well. The Go Westy one and the Fast Forward one work identical, however the Fast Forward one is nicer quality...the price reflects it. The FF one has a pulse flashing LED which shows it is working, which I like so it was worth the extra to me.... _________________ 1983 Diesel Vanagon Westfalia chassis with Subaru 2.2l |
