The VC is usually importing genuine VW parts from Deutschland.
You might want to inquire with them to find out--
I'll almost bet this is where they are coming from.

Good parts to consider.

I replaced the leaky water pump in our van, using a German Hepu water pump. I experienced what several others have seen . . . the bolt bottomed out in the case without pulling the pump tight because the side wall or flange of the water pump is slightly thinner than the older pump. Like others I had to cut the tip off the bolt and it worked fine. Otherwise running like a top.

ok locallly there is a napa, autozone, advanced auto, o'reilly's , best price is vc but they only have a 1 year warranty. napa , autozone have a life time warranty as long as you own the vehicle ,when you sell the warranty goes away. since i bought a bd water pump 4 years ago and now it leaks around the pulley shaft i can only assume that the life time warranty is worth the price which is $66 including tax. vc is $58 + sh .

I picked an auto zone .. life time warranty ..

there must be some variance in the casting. the one i had would not allow room to install it with Nuts.. come vehicles us allens bolts. mine has studs with nuts. I ended up grinding a small part to some extra casting away to allow room. its just small flap. took about 2 minutes to make the room then it went on with out issue and is working fine..
