Ever since my son and I went on part of the Treffen Border to Border VW Cruise, he has been wanting a bus. I have been searching the web for the last month. We finally found one at Bugorama 74. Smile

It had no title, no interior except for the driver seat, but it did run and drive.

It also had a broken jealousie (sp) window and no rear window. Luckily we had both of those things at home, so no big deal. Cody was waiting till we got it transferred to work on it. I made appt but it was a little over a week out. He finally couldn't resist and started replacing the missing and broken parts! Smile

Today was dmv day. It went pretty smooth, but I did have to make 2 trips. So now it is in our name!

Not sure why we didn't get to keep the original blue plates, but after dealing with the second dmv guy, I was just happy to have it transferred and I took the new plates and ran. LOL

Now he can start the fixing it up to his liking. First thing to go is the spare tire holder. LOL that is my preference, but he also wants it gone. Smile he needs to do the fuel lines and check the brakes and any other safety items. The ignition is jerry rigged so that needs to be addressed too.

We did the mcode and it comes back as a deluxe bus. I don't know a lot about hightops and am wondering what we got? It has these tags screwed to the side, which I'm guessing was done when it was converted to a Hightop with the camping stuff. It has remenents of a sink and has the holes and covers on the side of the bus.

Any insight on what we have would be great!

I cant help you with what kind of hightop it is, but I really dig it! Looks like a great foundation to build a camper however you want it. I like the pinstripes on the one side there on!

Oh good lord, that is a sick bus. I love the high top. I love the stripes. I love the color. I can't wait to see more of this thing.

You've got the same windows as my newly-installed AW/Adventurer hightop. There's a good writeup in the Split forum for rebuilding those Hehr windows, and all the seals & operating mechanisms are still available.

Lots of potential there.

He's got some work ahead of him, but at least he can drive it and work on it. He wants to eventually put a westy bed in the back but for now we let him use the rear and middle seats that we bought for our 64 bus. At least that will give him some seating for passengers if he has any. But the search is on for a cheap westy bed. Very Happy Course he has to do all the safety stuff first so has to save his money for that.

I'll update as he does stuff and eventually probably have this added to the build thread. Very Happy

Hey there everyone! Instead of uploading a ton of photos, I'm going to just link my Flickr albums for my bus, as well as the engine rebuild on it!

All the photos in the first album are ordered newest to oldest so if you want to see the progress from start to finish go from the bottom up! Click Here!

For the engine rebuild album, it's oldest to newest so you can see everything normally Smile Click Here!

I'll try to post updates when I do more to the bus in the future!

I love it! I think you should remove that paint job to reveal the beautiful OG paint below! It's already flaking off, I bet it wouldn't be too hard. Please post pics in the samba gallery/here and keep us updated!

I decided I'd paint my hubcaps, they'll probably get repainted when I paint the bus this winter. They didn't come out too bad for Rust-O-Leum!

Drove my bus to School, thought I'd randomly take a picture.

Here I finally installed a CB adapter into the bumper!

Since I've never posted the photos on the forums (trying to catch up and upload the photos above to the forums), I finally got around to these of the Interior:

Are you in high school? I have great memories of driving my '71 super beetle all through high school (and beyond). So glad I never bought a Honda or something, and that my parents supported my choice!

That's coming along great! Looks like you got a camper interior for it, which is perfect. And thanks for uploading photos to The Samba -- they will be here instead of disappearing like those off-site photo repositories.

I expect you are just loving this!

Thanks! No, highschool is way in the past for me! I'm almost 27!

haha, I just wish it was easier to upload photos, I always feel like I'm doing something wrong, or putting photos in the wrong spot.
