After much convincing my girlfriend finally gave in and
on May 17, 2015 at approximately 2:45pm in Compton, CA we
finally made one of our dreams come true.
We bought and brought home an old rusty bus. WOOHOO!! 
It came with dings, rips, rust, dirt, and grease, but it was now ours.
I wanted to put this thread together for family, friends, and enthusiasts alike to enjoy our progress on restoring this bus.
I hope it is entertaining and informative to everyone that reads this.

Congratulations on your new bus!!!
Don't want to spread doom and gloom. but did your bus come with the Fuel Injector parts? You will need them to smog and register it.
SGKent is one of the experts here on getting a bus to pass smog. You should do a search later and read his previous posts on the matter.

Is that a Landmark conversion? The luggage rack and unusual rear cabinet is telling me it's possible...
What a badass bus, though. Keep us updated!

Your rear engine tin look to be off of a '75 model. Suspect that you have quite the variety of parts from different years there. You also have an aftermarket distributor and carburetor. If you are in a county that requires strict compliance with pollution standards you may face quite the ordeal getting it licensed.  |

I think the seller, in CA, has to provide a valid smog certificate within 90 days of the sale. I hope you got this.

Yes it did come w/ FI parts and hope to update at a later date. |

It's actually licensed and registered, i got everything up to date. |

Is this your engine and do you live in Los Angeles?
I did not look at the engine picture closely until now. That bus cannot pass California smog if it is a 1979 if you still live in Los Angeles. You immediately need to address this issue or you will be putting a lot of money into refitting fuel injection on it.
This is a 1977 with FI. Do you see the big air cleaner on the right, and the absence of the carb in the middle? That is what you will need to pass smog. There is only one exception that I know of - a new bill in the California Assembly (AB 550) that has not passed yet (and may never pass) but if it did would allow someone with a 30-year old car to pay $200 in penalties in lieu of passing a smog test.

Yes, that is my engine. The guy I bought it from had it smogged already when I purchased. He gave me a crate of what looks to be most of the FI parts. I'm hoping to convert it back soon. Any suggestions? |

The dash is all black, the seats are brown though.
I took a photo of the M-Plate, its kinda hard to see all the characters due to wires.
I ran it and here is what came up:

Thought it was a Champagne Edition.
Depending on which county you live in, you may need to get it smogged in as little as two years. As previously posted, you are going to need to put all the original equipment back on, to do it legally. If you bought it knowing that, fine. But if not, you are going to have to put some money into it to get it done legally.

Thanks Tcash. I have most of the parts for the conversion and hope to take care of that before we need to smog again. I would like the engine to be as original as possible for the strict polices here in California and I think it would run better. |

Interesting. It may be some sort of model, but it doesn't look like it has all the features as the landmark. I do love that roof rack though. Lol
