Nope... some of its gotta go.. really the cut and fits method is the best because not everybody does it the same way..

An 8 inch beam extender places the steering box just behind the hood.
My steering box (link pin beam) actually barely touches the hood side lip
Plus the steering linkage is moved forward too... so a good amount of the reservoir shelf is eliminated. It really depends on how you plan to extend the steering shaft too.
The fuel tank area can stay...
So that will give you a pretty good idea.

Measure from the beam forward 8 1/2 inches and up about 2 inches for an 8 inch extension. Then trim as needed.

Got a little bit of time yesterday & was able to disassemble the used beam I bought. It was very packed full of old grease so the leaves/bearings etc. seem really good other than needing a thorough cleaning & re-greasing. Cut off the bump stops also.

I picked up a pair of empi adjusters to put in. Going to try & index them so I'll have 1" up & 3" down adjustment from stock location. The instructions say they give you 4" of adjustment so I'll check that before I weld them in. The reason I want 1" up is if I do go with a beam extension I would then be to low & will be able to raise it up. Right now I'm at 6.5" from the ground. I'd like to be at 3.5' which is about as low as I want to go & be able to drive it. The front tires are 165/15 so I need to decide if I'm going to stick with them or go smaller.

Great looking car, I sure hope you put a beam extender in it and loose the rear apron. It will look killer, Just my .02

Wish I had time to work on this but at least my new back wheels arrived today.

15x10 chrome 5 stars. Made by US wheel, bought from Summit racing. Now that I have wheels I can get my tires. Going to put 295/50-15 on them.

If I had any time at all I would have already done an extender. My worst fear is getting it apart & being so busy it sits in pcs. I'm just waiting until I'm sure I have the time. At least now it can be driven, well once winter is done. My other car has a few things to get done & that comes first.

Does this look like one outer spline drop from stock? The pic is a little exaggerated but still plenty of negative camber. I did go one outer spline from where it was but maybe it was already lowered before? I didn't think it was though. The rubber bump stop is almost touching the metal stop when sitting. I did have to jack the spring plate to get it over the lower stop but not a lot. Just curious as to others opinions.
Edit - Quick measurement it's close to 3.5* negative camber.

I will probably go up about 1 to 1.5" from here. Shooting for 1.5* negative.

Still not on the road but it is on it's wheels. No cutting yet but did get the adjustable front end in & wheels & tires on.

I've been trying to fix numerous small things on this & get it to where I want it. Self imposed deadline of July 12 to make a club show. Minor wiring, door stops, tidying up, tighten up everything that is loose, etc. Found the wiper motor disconnected. Connected it & it runs fast. Car was converted to 12v but I guess no one did the wipers. Sad Now I need to figure that out. Don't think it's a SWF motor but gotta look harder.

Finally got it sitting right after three attempts. First went one outer spline drop. To much camber. Down 4 inners & up four outers from there. Still to much camber plus 1/4" off side to side. Last was down 2/3 inners & up 2/3 outers which is good & fixed the 1/4" difference so now it sits even with a bout 1.5* neg. camber. I want it lower but don't like the broken axle look. It'll stay where it is.

Rear apron was removed. After numerous tape jobs I finally decided on the spot & sliced it off. What a difference, should of done it the day I bought it.

Question on engine tin. Since the apron is gone & vents were added to the deck lid, how much tin do I need? It looks like the lowers are missing but the small ones in between the cylinders are there. The two tubes on the shroud have also been plugged plus the manifold heat risers are blocked off. Should I find some lowers to put on?

My son is having a blast driving it around & is really doing well learning how to drive a stick. The other day he had trouble backing out of the garage to turn around. Kept stalling it, I reminded him about the e-brake. Embarassed At least it wasn't in public.

Think of it like this.. Most Dune Buggy's run around with the basic tin.. so that being posted.. .. your will most likely have PLENTY of fresh air available.

You may want to consider running the lower sled tins and/or industrial style HEAD tins though...as they do help exhaust the hot air rearward and more efficiently around the head and cylinders..

A 009 mechanical distributor should be set at 28-32*. Does it matter what engine, carb, dist combo you have or it always gets set at this?

Holy crap, just looked at my last post. It was 3 years ago. Where has the time gone?

Haven't done much to this expect drive it a little bit and let my son use it. He put more miles than me on it. Thing runs great.

Put a "new" shifter in it this past week. Out with the stocker and in with the "cooler". Can't take credit for the knob or shaft because it came extra with the car. I just had to add an empi quick shift kit and bend the shaft to fit better. Knob is a camshaft from a motorcycle.
