hi all,
I replace the shift linkage with the Shift Linkage Repair Kit from Van Cafe (at gear box). And now there is a whining noise when in gear that wasn't there before.

What I did wrong? Please help..
thanks in advance, |

Can you make the noise go away by moving the shifter knob around a little while under way?
(left to right or vice versa)
May just need adjusting at the base plate under the boot. _________________ -89 GL Westy, SVX.. finally.

Might be left field, but "at the gear box" to me means that you had to mess with that protective tube for the linkage. I know if I don't have mine lined up just right that the linkage can get bound up... which might be adding some pressure on the selected and thus a strange sound. _________________ previous:

0to60, did you ever solve this problem? I am experiencing the same thing after overhauling my shifter components.
Yesterday I replaced the shift ball/arm at the trans, the rear rod support bushing, front fork ends, all parts at the base of the shift lever, and lots of grease. Afterwards, shifting was slightly off, and I adjusted the linkage a fraction (at the front/rear rod junction) to get it back to good. I did not adjust the shift lever base plate, although re-installing it might have moved it a hair from it's previous position.
The noise I hear is a very low whine that I'd describe more as a "whrrr." It is present in every gear, but loudest (or at least most noticeable) in 1st and 2nd. Pressing gently side-to-side on the shift lever will make the noise increase/decrease but not disappear.
Advice. Thanks. _________________ -James

0to60in6min,
Really wish you would have posted rather than PM'd! I'm having this same problem and don't feel another thread is necessary. Did either of y'all figure out what needed to be adjusted?
Cheers,
