three things i really like..
-hurst bumpers front and rear
-ambulance partition divider
-you can see how the headliner material was very much grey, not beige. that bus looks brand new with all those awesome features. _________________ drive your split. |

I figured it was to hold curtains or shades for the windows.
sled and cdennisg caught all the features I had noticed.
This Bus would be a great find today! _________________ How to Post Photos

I wonder if that's a vintage photo of the bus Bob Laporte found years ago?
Sunroof - ambulance partition - Hurst bumpers - there can't be too many with that combination out there. |

A co-worker picked this up for me at an antique mart over the weekend. It is dated 12/10/56 and there is a logo on the door ending in "Robin".

My guess on the "witches cauldron" is some sort of ice box or cooler. At first it looks round, but you can see the short end of the rectrangrular box shape in the side window and door window. The other end fits nice up against the cab divider. _________________ Prosit!

WOW!
my thread has attained sticky status.
maybe if I wasn't so busy fixing all of your VWS I would have noticed sooner
thank you so much to everyone who has contributed!
while my initial intent was to see some cool pics AND hear the stories that go with them, such as those submitted recently by fig, Red, tanhis and crukab and Zeitgeist.
i am more than happy to view (and see some of the comments on) the photos of unknown origins as well.
Blue Baron is welcome here any time
please continue to post any vintage splitty photos you have.
love it! _________________ 88 Van WBX, A/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T - 2012 Touareg TDI Sport |

For my sophomore year in college in 1967 I shared a 1959 21-window with my brother. We drove it from MA to KS, used it all year, and drove back again the next summer. I wish I knew what became of that bus. Or more to the point, I wish I still had it.
(edit: spelling)

And the fact that it's actually a 23 window should make you want to know its whereabouts even more _________________

Not to mention, S&H Green Stamps.
I realized my memory was slightly off. We didn't drive back to Massachusetts at the end of the school year. My brother got married right after graduation and stayed in Kansas with his new bride, and kept the bus. I flew home and never saw the bus again. For all I know it may be rotting away on an old farm today. |
