I know Empi get a lot of shit on here, and sometimes deservedly so....
I just emailed empi in the us to find out about replacing bushes on my 34ict linkage - got a reply back almost instantly with the part number I needed and also a suggestion to look at a needle bearing conversion kit - this one...

1st off, props to empi for the customer service, and second - has anyone installed one of these? I think it might make a fair to middling linkage kit a lot better...it would certainly address one of the weaknesses with the kit - the means of securing the throttle cable being the other major.

Have not used to needle bearing kit.
For the cable end.

Yep, that's roughly what I do, but I still think it's a little shit. If you take a look at a decent bike derailleur they have a much better cable clamping system that means you don't have to cut the cable first. I'm thinking of hanging something like that - a notched square washer clamped by another washer - into the grub screw hole and seeing how that flies. You can then cut the cable end and put a nice crimp on it - no chance of an unravelled cable or cable fibres shredded by the grub screw...

More than likely. HPMX Deluxe kits are full blown Weber IDF clones. Not Knock-offs, clones. I can see why you'd need them for longevity after your lubed nylon bushings wear out after 50k+ miles.

Not being a smart arse - genuine question. I thought nylon was self lubricating?
The cup size and threads in the bar ends for the CB performance linkage would have to be the same as for the empi one - don't know if that's the case?

When I got mine, it came with some grease to put in the cups.

Been so long since mine went in I've forgotten... I think I'm up to about 35-40k on them, something like that. There's been a bit of lateral play in one side for a while and the cup's worn through - not sure if this has been accelerated after I double-sprung the return arms, but there's certainly more tension on the linkage than stock...

Lateral should be adjustable is it not? I haven't seen a CB bar in person.

Sorry - I should be clearer - fore and aft movement within the cup on one side where the cup's been wearing through.

| The EMPI book says their linkage kits with the needle bearings fit Weber, Dellorto. I’d just get the whole kit. I just did a quick search and the whole kit is only $30 bucks more than just the needle bearing kit. |
