Hi. Just a quick question. Would the early 100mm gas caps for Splits and early Ovals have had a blue rubber seal? I would think that they would have had cork, it would be much cheaper to produce.

So the caps here in my picture are 70mm and 80mm I think, and the earlier for up to '53 or so would be 100mm, which is not in the picture. 80mm would commonly come with a blue rubber type gasket, or sometimes other?
The 70mm ( I have ~ 10 of them in a bag..) looks like it had some kind of reddish orange asbestos fibrous looking stuff. But what about a 100mm cap, what was common for seals on them?

Thanks!

The 100mm gas caps originally came with cork gaskets. The blue rubber gasket was introduced in September 1956 as a service part and quickly became a popular item, as the cork gaskets tend to wear out quickly.
