ok so after 7 years of ownership it was time to give the trusty doka an overhal.
gone is the old b230 engine and a 1.8 20v fitted upright using south african parts, gearbox was rebuilt, new arches welded in, all 4 jacking points repaired, breaks completely overhauled with new disks and callipers all round. an old set of syncro16inch wheels were sourced (6 of them) then shot-blasted and painted (dont like powerder coating things). lots more of the under body was galvanised. then a fresh coat of paint. ohh and i have just sourced a new bumper.
i am rather happy with the result.

Looking really sharp and snazzy.

A couple of things noticed that are not bad but just interesting like the rear fold-out step on the outside of the rear tailgate and the spare tire mounted in back. Neither seen here on dokas and sinkas. I realize it's user preference but in the case of larger tires/wheels like yours, people here mount on the front wall inside the bed.

Also, the mirrors do not look like the LT ones that would fit a vanagon (caravelle ?) so they tilt out a bit -- or maybe the pic is causing the angle to appear larger than it is.

Nevertheless, your doka looks like it's fit and ready to hit the mud and dirt !

Question --- does your bed tarp keep it dry underneath and if so, how do you have it sealed up next to the rear cab wall ?

the mirrors are standard syncro ones, it probably the angle in the photo that makes them look a little odd, also its a rhd doka so the mirroes are set up for a rhd truck.
i am a carpenter and use the truck for work so to loose space on the load bed for the spare wheel made no sense to me so i made a swing out wheel carrier there is a thread on a uk forum if your interested.
the flip down step is because i have a vindic and with this step i can get to the top with ease and secure things to the roof of the vindic

the load bed cover is water tight the vindic roll cage is sealed to the bulkhead via a seal, the cover connects to the roll cage vai a P channel thats sealed and riveted too the roll cage. i will take some pics as they will explane it better.

cool piece and nice pics! my flip up step is located on the inside of the rear tailgate so that when the back is lowered 180º it provides the perfect height to step up and secure a load uptop. yours is on the outside so does it interfere with lowering the rear hatch? it also must be very tough to step up to at that height? i mean im 6'3 and even my lower step height is a reach!

Not meaning to answer for him but it sounds like your fold out step is in the stock location. I imagine he steps onto the bumper and then that step to reach up on top of his vindic canopy as he said he has which is not shown. And I'm guessing it's on the outside so he also doesn't need to swing his spare tire out and then lower the rear gate each time to step up.

As for interference when the gate is down -- I'll let him answer Wink

Krikie. That is my favorite syncro doka by far. I have no idea what that would be worth! The camper is amazing, the custom suspension is amazing. Wow.

I have pretty much the same Problem. How much can I ask for this? It's in a perfect condition, all the parts were renewed less than 30.000 km ago (that's less than 18k miles)!

GoWesty offers Westfalia Syncros sometimes for 120 – 130 k$. I'm sure they can't be in a better condition than my Doka, but I also know that this is too much money! Some Syncros in good condition get offered for 60 – 80 k$ here in the classifieds. I mostly think my Doka is actually in a better condition. So I think the truth should actually be somewhere in between. Does that make sense? Would it be too much to ask 90 k$ ?

Volkmar, why do you sell this amazing syncro doka?
Is it an original Tristar or did you add the fourth door within the rebuild?
