Hey! I have a 1965 11 window as well, same front bench seat, same original colors it looks like. (sea blue and bluewhite?) I would love to see your M-code plate. Perhaps mine and yours were on the same boat over or something.
I'm somewhat novice by the way, I hope asking for and M-code plate picture isn't like the socially awkward equivalent of asking for someone's social or something.
Anyway the bus looks great and I'm excited to see your progress. |
Not a problem.
My M Plate is missing and removed by some previous owner who knows how many years ago.
It turns out that the S/N next to the fresh air overhead console was also removed but the VIN # in the engine bay is still intact.. my first digits start as 227_ _ _ _ _ and so on..
So the first digit says its a Type 2
The third digit is a 7 so that means that my bus is actually a 1967 and not a 1965
So when i go to register it I have to let them know that the year on the title has to be changed to 1967 _________________ My '64 Pan Meyers Manx Dune Buggy "Lady in Red"

Well...
I just bought panels for the rust work removal and replace with good metal
I have to tell you that I have bought panels from KF, WW (AC), and CIP1 (Estraguaru Brazil)
The KlassicFab panels i bought from a guy in Florida that was getting rid of his stuff so i bought some pieces off of him.. I found the metal to be like that of Estraguaru and Wolfsburg West.
The fitment on the Estraguaru panel is good and it cost a lot less from CIP1
Here is the LH Section from WW (AC) from their site
This one is from KF
My brother is also ordering the LH side Panel from Aircooled Treasury and he spoke to Matt and what Matt carries is Auto Craft which is very good quality panels. which has a fine oil mist on it which is simple to take off with some prepall or pre cleaner. Instead of having to sand the FR primer or Orange primer paint. _________________ My '64 Pan Meyers Manx Dune Buggy "Lady in Red"

Good luck on that? I would talk to someone with title knowledge before you go to the courthouse and they tell you your bus has found to be stolen, and it belongs to someone else? _________________ I know you would understand what I'm saying if you could just see my HANDS

Well it has been a while since i have posted so here are the updates...
I purchased a Left Side Long panel from Aircooled Treasury which is the Autocraft Engineering from UK which is a very good qualilty metal panels.. it is the same brand that Wolfsburg West sells.
So here it is the Left panel
measures 95" L x 44" Height so transporting it is a pain and WW will not ship so the Cali guys are lucky because they can just go there and pick it up..
Us guys on the East Coast can buy from Aircooled Treasury which is in the midwest and convenient.. just ask for Matt Montgomery and tell him i sent you.

My friend Joe from Bullseye Powdercoating suggested that I should acid dip it to remove all the rust, bondo, paint and impurities so after much thought i said Yes because it is a bit expensive around $3,800.00
So we picked it up from Daniel Chapisteria in Opa Locka, FL to take to Bullseye and dismantle it.. that is remove everything.. wires, suspension, tranny, motor and leave it as bare as possible.
This is my first bus so i thought it would be simple to remove all that stuff but it took about one day ... here it is anyway.. i had help from a guy Anthony because he knows Splits better than i do.
Here is the day we pick it up from Daniel Chapistero Cubano in Opa Locka
We have arrived at Bullseye Powdercoating
Here we are the removing of Motor, tranny and beam.. wires harness, steering shaft and box
Now to tackle the beam
Here are the parts removed from the underside

My 5'2" wife Hadassah came to give me a hand to take off the rest.. i had no idea that the doors and hatch had to be removed too so i didnt have anyone else to help me out so my wife came to the rescue.
It took us all night to get it done and using a flashlight but we got it done..
Baruch Hashem that i have such a great Jewish wife !!!!
It is now the next morning so now we have to load it onto the enclosed trailer for the hike up to the acid tank which is a little away from Miami.
Joe placed a 4x4 wood lateral position to use the forklift to get into the trailer

I have to get it to Daniel Chapista Cubano in Opa Locka to put the Left Side long panel in and finish all the other welding so we can Epoxy Primer it with PPG line
Enjoy the pics
Engine Access panel cut and welded in
Clean underside
The roof all clean too

Now it is time while the bus is getting the last remaining pieces welded I can concentrate on Narrowing the beam and of course getting it Sandblasted at
Bullseye Powdercoating
Taking some measurements since i will be narrowing from the outside only 2" on each side.
I had the following plates made at LabShop which is Lawrence Sanborn a vendor here on the Samba.
He made these especially for me and my type of application since i will take this piece and mate it to existing plate from outside
We will get back to this portion later.
I ordered the flipped spindles from a good buddy at Vintage V-Dubs from San Diego , CA
Once i get these in then i can pick up where we left off
Now lets go to sealing the bus with PPG Epoxy Primer. _________________ My '64 Pan Meyers Manx Dune Buggy "Lady in Red"

Now if we could just primer dip the whole body like they used to do! Wish they had never stopped that. _________________ '72 Elm Green Deluxe |
